WHEN: Sunday, September 22 – 4:30pm
WHERE: Etihad Stadium, Manchester
TV: Sky Sports Main Event, Premier League
It’s not ideal playing the biggest game of the season so far on Sunday after being in Europe on Thursday night for Arsenal, they won’t have as much rest as City going into it, but I think they’ll cope with the quicker turnaround.
The bigger concern is Martin Odegaard being out for me. He really makes them tick and it looks like he’s going to be out for a quite a while now. That’s a big loss.
Getting Declan Rice back is a positive though. He served his suspension against Spurs. This being at the Etihad and City being as relentless as they are at the moment, they’ll want him back in there too.
I do fear for Arsenal on Sunday given how well City have been playing.
Considering Arsenal went down to ten men against Brighton the might see it as a point earned, and Brighton are a good side, and they’ve since got that win against Tottenham last week.
But it’s the standard set by these clubs in the last few seasons, it leaves no room for error. We saw it last season, when it feels like there’s so much to lose in a game like this, No team is going to run away with this game though and I expect it to be very tight.
Phil Foden to score or assist
Kevin De Bruyne’s a huge miss if he’s out for City too. He’s a top player, but they have so many options to handle his absence. I’d expect Phil Foden to get back in there now he can make his mark on Sunday with a goal or assist.
Arsenal defensively have been so strong – David Raya’s save the other night was unbelievable, while Gabriel and Saliba are an unbelievable partnership – that gives them some hope of getting a result. When you look at their defensive stats, in any other era they’d have probably won the league.
Man City to win
But City really haven’t had any setbacks on the pitch yet this season. Often we see them and they click into gear later in the year but they seem to have it all together already this campaign.
Haaland’s on fire as well, they’re getting Phil Foden back to full fitness as he hasn’t quite got going yet. Savinho looks a good fit too, Rodri is back in the mix after his break, so they are firing on all cylinders now and it means I see them winning on Sunday.
Erling Haaland to score
And the way Erling Haaland’s going at the moment I could see him getting a couple of goals, but I’ll take him to score at least once.
Bukayo Saka to have 1+ shots on target
For Arsenal, the combination of Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz is really unbelievable and both of them carry a threat for Arsenal. I’ll got for Saka to get a shot on target for the Gooners.
Thomas Partey to commit 1+ fouls
We know City will have a lot of possession and Arsenal will have to chase them. Thomas Partey will be leading that effort and a foul seems likely for him.
