Man United winning two games in a row? Surely they can't make it three right?

Despite the relentless amount of football during the week, the weekend and the Premier League is already back, and we have a tasty teatime kickoff lined up for us.

Footy tipster Andrew Beasley wants to continue his solid streak of finding value in the players’ markets with five picks from the Selhurst showdown. Let’s get into his Crystal Palace v Man United betting tips.

Crystal Palace v Man United tips

Bruno Fernandes to score or assist
Joshua Zirkzee to have 1+ shots on target
Diogo Dalot to be booked
Jean-Philippe Mateta to commit 1+ fouls
Adam Wharton to be fouled 1+ times

WHEN: Saturday, September 21st, 17:30
WHERE: Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace
TV: Sky Sports Premier League/Main Event

Manchester United return to the scene of their most demoralising defeat of last season on Saturday evening. The Red Devils lost 4-0 at Crystal Palace in May, just eight league games ago. It was only the 12th time United have lost a Premier League game by at least four goals.

With two wins and two defeats this term, it is difficult to know what to make of Erik ten Hag’s side, as usual. But at least they’ve taken three points, something which has so far eluded the Eagles.

Whatever happens here, Oliver Glasner can comfort himself with the knowledge that Palace are off to Everton after this. Paddy Power expects United to win, so let’s look at some player prop bets.

Every selection here is eligible for the Super Sub offer, too. Last week, I picked Nicholas Jackson to score at Bournemouth, and as his replacement from the bench, Christopher Nkunku netted; the bet still won. Lovely stuff.

Bruno Fernandes to score or assist

There is no obvious pick for a goal scorer this week, purely because Jean-Philippe Mateta is the only player on either side with more than one to his name in the Premier League this season. He only has two, if you’re wondering.

Instead, let’s find someone who looks to be due a goal. Bruno Fernandes is our man, as no player in the division has amassed more non-penalty expected goals in 2024/25 without scoring. He’s also had a couple of big chances; they haven’t all been speculative long-rangers.

The Portuguese midfielder scored home and away against Palace two seasons ago. He also set up two goals midweek in a late cameo in the League Cup, so back Fernandes To Score or Assist.

Joshua Zirkzee to have 1+ shots on target

A big part of Bruno’s problem – aside from his terrible attitude when things go badly, as they often do at United – is that he hasn’t been testing the opposition goalkeepers enough.

On that front, Joshua Zirkzee has been far sharper. Granted, he robbed Alejandro Garnacho of a potential winning goal at Brighton by being offside. But he has had at least one shot on target in United’s other league matches this term, putting five of his seven efforts between the posts.

Only seven men found the target in more Serie A matches last season, so Zirkzee is a reliable choice for the player to have one or more shots on target market. Pick him, go on.

Diogo Dalot to be booked

Kobbie Mainoo might be the obvious selection in the cards markets, as he is joint-top of the 2024/25 Premier League for yellows. Having been booked three times, the young midfielder has already equalled his tally from his breakthrough campaign.

But the law of averages perhaps makes him less likely to be carded at Selhurst Park. One man who may be at risk from statistical reversion is Diogo Dalot. Only Liam Delap has committed more fouls this season without being booked.

The United full-back was also penalised for two fouls twice against Palace last term, so they know how to give him the runaround. Referee David Coote to show a card to Dalot here.

Jean-Philippe Mateta to commit 1+ fouls

The Portuguese international will likely need to commit a foul to receive a card, and we can be confident that Mateta will also give away at least one free kick.

He has done so in 24 league matches since the start of 2023/24 despite only starting 29 games in that period. It’s notable, too, that more of the games in which Mateta committed a foul were against sides that finished in the top half of the table last season.

He ticked off all the big six clubs, too. Whatever state United are in, they’re still a big club, so back Mateta to commit one or more fouls.

Jean-Philippe Mateta Player To Commit 1 Or More Fouls

Adam Wharton to be fouled 1+ times

Four players, two from each side, have been fouled in all four league games so far this season: Mainoo and Noussair Mazraoui for United, Mateta and Adam Wharton for Palace. The latter looks like a good option, particularly with foul machine Dalot lurking on his side of the field.

Wharton has been fouled in 17 top-flight games since joining Palace in January. It’s tricky to compare players on this stat for that period alone, but as he has only started 19 Premier League matches, it’s reasonable to assume that Wharton will be fouled one or more times in this contest.
