Both teams to score

After losing Spanish captain Alvaro Morata to AC Milan over the summer, it looked like Atletico might struggle for goals this season. Five games into their La Liga campaign, however and they’re yet to lose, having won three and drawn two, scoring nine and conceding just two, keeping four clean sheets.

At home this season, they’ve won two and drawn one, scoring six and conceding none and they’ve scored in all but two of their last 10 home Champions League games too so should be hitting the back of the net here.

The question is, will RB Leipzig score? We can see from the stats that Diego Simeone’s side don’t give up much at home but Marco Rose’s Bulls have scored eight over their four German games this season and have scored a mammoth 21 goals over their last 10 away Champions League outings.

It would appear that Atletico have shored up their defence after a shaky showing last season. However, over their last eight home games in the Champions League, they conceded at least one goal in five of them. Leipzig, too, are in strong goal-scoring form, and let’s not forget they were the ones who finally brought a halt to Bayer Leverkusen’s undefeated run in late August.

Antoine Griezmann to score

Griezmann has chosen to stay at Atletico for another season despite being linked with a move away in the summer. The French forward scored 18 goals in domestic competition last season, as well as six in the Champions League.

He’s already scored two for the Colchoneros in La Liga this campaign and while former Man City man Julian Alvarez will be leading the line, he’s only scored once since leaving rainy Manchester for sunny Spain so, Griezmann, with his superior Champions League experience, is far more likely to hit the back of the net here.

Monaco v Barcelona

WHEN: Thursday, September 19th, 20:00
WHERE: The Stade Louis II, Monaco
TV: TNT Sports

Barcelona to win

There aren’t many punters or fans out there who could have predicted how well the season would have started for Barcelona. Hansi Flick’s side have won all five of their games so far, scoring at least two goals per game, netting a total of 17 goals.

Monaco will take some confidence from the fact that the Catalans have conceded in all but one of their five matches thus far and have won three and drawn one of their four games this season.

The hosts have scored seven so far, but against a free-scoring Barcelona there can only be one winner here.

Lamine Yamal to have 1+ shots on target

Spain’s latest wunderkind, Lamine Yamal hasn’t let up since his headline-grabbing performances at the Euros in Germany. He’s scored four La Liga goals over five games so far, assisting four times, and has been averaging 3.2 shots per game.

With Dani Olmo out for at least a month following an injury picked up against Girona over the weekend, Yamal will be able to come in off the wing even more often than usual, and he’ll definitely be taking a pop when he finds himself within shooting distance.
