I was at St Mary’s on Saturday. The game really swung when Cameron Archer missed a penalty for Southampton. The hosts really impressed me for the first 35 minutes while Man United looked really sloppy. That penalty save by Andre Onana galvanized United, and from then on, they looked so in control. It could have ended up four or five nil to United.
Erik ten Hag’s in a situation now where United are just hanging in there, nicking results, and still waiting for all his players to get fit again. I think they’ll have a new back four here. Three of the back four that started against Southampton came off, and teams usually change and tinker around when it comes to the Carabao Cup.
I can’t see Barnsley getting anything, though. Even Man United’s player off the bench should have enough to be winning. They’ve got some good young players, too, so I’d fancy United to win by more than two goals.
For me, the smart thing to do would be to start Marcus Rashford. We know that he’s streaky, but if he can nick a goal, which he has a very good chance of here with the game being at home.
His tail will be up after scoring a fantastic goal over the weekend and if he gets another goal, all of a sudden he’s rolling into next weekend looking for another. I’d play him and if he does play, I’d back him to score.
