The 2024/25 Premier League season is in full swing and Paddy’s pal Mark Lawrenson is back to gaze into his crystal ball every single matchday.
The Soccer Soothsayer has read the signs and crunched the numbers to produce his Premier League predictions over the coming days. Let’s see what the future holds…
Saturday 12:30: Southampton v Manchester United
TV: TNT Sports
Southampton are struggling and they did make a few signings, but they’re looking at being clever to help them next season if they get relegated. Manchester United were a million miles away form Liverpool but I fancy them to win. If they don’t I do think Erik ten Hag might lose his job after getting the vote of confidence earlier this week. Southampton 1-2 Manchester United.
Saturday 3pm: Brighton v Ipswich
Ipswich have done alright, you only know after 10 games really how well you’ll do in the Premier League. They’ve been competitive, there’s no doubt about that. Brighton have started well but they’ve ridden their luck. Manchester United should have beaten them and Arsenal had that ridiculous Declan Rice red card but I fancy them to have enough. Brighton 2-1 Ipswich.
Saturday 3pm: Crystal Palace v Leicester
I’m on the home win. This is a game Crystal Palace know they should win and I think they will. Marc Guehi’s still with them which is really important for Palace. Crystal Palace 2-0 Leicester.
Saturday 3pm: Fulham v West Ham
This has got draw written all over it. Both have started a little slowly but I’m sure they’ll be fine come the end of the season. These are two very good managers, for me. The draw is the result that no-one wants but if it prevents a defeat you take it. Fulham 1-1 West Ham.
Saturday 3pm: Liverpool v Nottingham Forest
Liverpool look excellent no matter who they play at the moment. They’ve hit the ground running very, very quickly under Arne Slot. They’ve got lots of competition for places and, with Federico Chiesa signing, that’s another quality forward they’ve got. Liverpool will win but they might concede. Liverpool 3-1 Nottingham Forest.
Saturday 3pm: Manchester City v Brentford
Nathan Ake’s probably out but will that make a big difference? Arguably not. Ilkay Gundogan’s back to bolster the ranks. This will be another one-sided game. Manchester City 3-0 Brentford.
Saturday 5.30pm: Aston Villa v Everton
TV: Sky Sports
I don’t think Aston Villa will take their eye off the ball with the Champions League coming and you have to fancy them here. The interesting thing here is that John Textor looks like he’s getting closer to buying Everton. It seems like the first thing he’s going to do is to get a new manger which I wouldn’t understand because Sean Dyche will keep them up with a bit of money. Aston Villa 2-0 Everton.
Saturday 8pm: Bournemouth v Chelsea
TV: Sky Sports
Not too many teams go to Bournemouth and completely dominate, they have got a good home record and a good manager in Andoni Iraola. Chelsea are chaos but they might have the stardust to win this. Bournemouth 0-2 Chelsea.
Sunday 2pm: Tottenham v Arsenal
TV: Sky Sports
I’m siding with a draw here. Tottenham are good at home but you just never know in these games. If you said to Mikel Arteta now you could have a draw I think he’s take it. Martin Odegaard’s out and Declan Rice is suspended which makes it harder for Arsenal but it gives the guys who are normally on the bench the chance to come in and make a name for himself. Tottenham 1-1 Arsenal.
Sunday 4.30pm: Wolves v Newcastle
TV: Sky Sports
Newcastle have made a good start but they’ve been unconvinging and I would be of the opinion that that’s a really, really good thing. If you can be unconvincing in this league and still have a good start is quite something. Wolves have been a little all over the place and I’m not sure about their signings. Newcastle are in the better form so I’ll back them. Wolves 1-2 Newcastle.
