Netherlands v Germany – Both teams to score & over 2.5 goals
UEFA Nations League match at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Amsterdam
TV: Premier Sports, 19:45
Both the Netherlands and Germany made light work of their opening Group 3 match, winning 5-2 and 5-0, respectively. Now, these old rivals face off at the Johan Cruijff Arena, but the hosts don’t have a great record against their most hated rivals. Of their last six games against them played on home soil, they’ve only won one. They lost two, three ended level, and just one ended 0-0.
There’s no doubt that Ronaldo Koeman has some great talent in the squad, but we saw at the Euros that they can find it hard to function together as a unit when goals are needed. Germany’s side is also laden with talent, and it was evident at the Euros that they could dig deeper and apply pressure.
Based on the likely starting XIs, you’d probably lean towards a Germany win here as they’ve better and more regular goalscorers. However, the Dutch have only lost one of their last seven at home, winning the other six. We can’t dismiss the derby factor, either, and with both in good form, confidence in taking the win will be high for both sides.
Both teams should be scoring then, and we can see at least a third being scored, too.
Albania v Georgia – Both teams to score
UEFA Nations League match at the Air Albania Stadium, Tirana
TV: Premier Sports, 19:45
Football hipster tie of the night sees Albania hosting Georgia. Both teams won over plenty of neutrals thanks to their spirited displays at the Euros, and both won their opening games on Saturday, beating Ukraine 1-2 and Czech Republic 4-1 respectively.
Georgia have scored seven over their last five away games and the home side have bagged eight over their last five at home. We should see both rattling the net here.
Czech Republic v Ukraine – Czech Republic to win
UEFA Nations League match at the Fortuna Arena, Prague
TV: Premier Sports, 19:45
Both sides lost their opening fixtures, as mentioned above and will be looking to put that right. The 4-1 loss away to Georgia will have come as a surprise for the Czechs who have built a team on their strong defence so they’ll likely set up to keep things rather tight here.
Ukraine only managed three shots on target against Albania but in the second half had six shots off target as they went in search of an equaliser.
The hosts are particularly strong at home. They’ve only lost one of their last nine on Czech soil, winning seven of them, while Ukraine have won just four of their last 12 on their travels. That home record is difficult to argue with; we’re backing the home side.
England v Finland – 1st half over 1.5 goals
UEFA Nations League match at Wembley Stadium, London
TV: ITV, 19:45
England made light work of the Republic of Ireland on Saturday evening, the game was all but over once Jack Grealish got England’s second goal in the 26th minute.
The question over this match is whether Finland can put a dent in England’s armour. They’ve scored away to Scotland, Portugal, Wales and Denmark over their last 10 games so it wouldn’t really be a surprise should they score.
Saying that, when England play teams that aren’t ranked all that high, they don’t concede many. Of their last six home games against teams outside the top 20, they’ve not conceded a single goal.
Seeing how they played against Ireland and knowing that Finland will sit back, we’re liking the look of Over 1.5 First Half goals. They’re going to be flying high after that Ireland win and certainly have the firepower to hurt a team that has conceded an eye-watering 17 goals over their last six away games.
Ireland v Greece – Both teams to score
UEFA Nations League match at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin
TV: Premier Sports, RTE 2, 19:45
Ireland fans will be demanding a reaction after their lacklustre display against the English. Ireland have now won just two of their last 10 fixtures, and one of those was against Gibraltar so, that counts for nothing.
Greece beat Ireland twice in 2023, and in their eight games since their last win at the Aviva, they’ve won four, drawn two (losing one on penalties), and lost two. Those losses were to Germany and the Netherlands as well, so, games you’d expect them to lose. With that record you’d have to expect the away side to score.
Will Ireland score? Over their last 15 at home, they’ve scored in nine and they came close against England it must be said, although that probably would have upset the visitors and they’d have hammered in a couple more.
That aside, Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side have to react and with a decent goal-scoring record at the Aviva, Both Teams to Score makes the best sense here.
