Bulgaria v Northern Ireland
UEFA Nations League match at the Hristo Botev Stadium, Plovdiv
KO: 5:00pm
TV; ITVX
Under 2.5 goals
Northern Ireland’s UEFA Nations League campaign kicked off with a 2-0 win over Luxembourg in Belfast on Thursday. Early goals from Paddy McNair and Dan Ballard sealed victory for Michael O’Neill’s team in their third home win from four in the last 12 months.
Bulgaria drew 0-0 away at Belarus with the visitors forced to hold on in the final 20 minutes after being reduced to 10 men. Five of Northern Ireland’s last six games have featured under 2.5 goals scored with Bulgaria matching that record.
Croatia v Poland
UEFA Nations League match at the Opus Arena, Osijek
KO: 7:45pm
Over 2.5 goals
Cristiano Ronaldo’s 900th career goal set Croatia on the road to a 2-1 campaign opening defeat in Portugal but they almost rallied for a draw in Lisbon.
The wily Croatians failed to make it out of their group at Euro 2024, but the shackles appear loosened from their previous battle hardened ways, with six of their last seven games including over 2.5 goals.
Poland opened up with brilliant late comeback to win 3-2 in Scotland, and they also dropped out in the Euro 2024 groups, but five of their last six outings featured over 2.5 goals.
Portugal v Scotland
UEFA Nations League match at the Estadio da Luz, Lisbon
KO: 7:45pm
TV: ITV4/ITVX
Portugal to win and over 2.5 goals
Ronaldo and Co. did have to hold off some late pressure from Croatia but their attacking power is likely to be flexed once again up against Scotland.
Roberto Martinez’s side lost out to France on penalties in the quarter finals of Euro 2024 but in Portugal they have been very strong in the last 12 months.
They have won seven out of their last eight games on home soil with six of those victories featuring over 2.5 goals scored between both teams at full time.
Sweden v Estonia
UEFA Nations League match at the Friends Arena, Stockholm
KO: 7:45pm
Alexander Isak to score
Sweden cruised to a 3-1 win in Azerbaijan as Estonia lost 1-0 at home to Slovakia. With the Estonians losing their last six of their last seven away games, there is little value in a simple Sweden victory, so we are going for a goal scorer pick.
Alexander Isak signed off for the international break with Newcastle’s winner at home to Tottenham and he scored twice on the road in Azerbaijan.
Isak is crucial for club and country and the former Real Sociedad striker has three goals in his last two starts for the Swedes.
Switzerland v Spain
UEFA Nations League match at the Stade de Genève, Geneva
KO: 7:45pm
Draw
Spain came back down to Earth with a bump following their Euro 2024 final win over England in July as Luis de la Fuente’s team were held to a 0-0 Nations League draw in Serbia.
That was La Roja first ‘away game’, either side of Euro 2024, in 10 months and they now face a tricky trip to Switzerland.
The Swiss lost 2-0 in Denmark in their opener, but home form is a major factor for them, and they are unbeaten in their last nine home matches, since ironically losing to Spain in June 2022.
