Man United v Liverpool Betting Tips

Liverpool to win
Mo Salah to score
Diogo Jota to have 1+ shots on target
Bruno Fernandes to have 1+ shots on target
Casemiro to commit 1+ fouls

WHEN: Sunday, September 1 – 4pm
WHERE: Old Trafford, Manchester
TV: Sky Sports Main Event

TEAM NEWS:
Man Utd XI: Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Casemiro, Mainoo; Garnacho, Fernandes, Rashford, Zirkzee.
Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Diaz, Jota.

Liverpool have looked comfortable in both their games under Arne Slot so far, apart from the first half at Ipswich. Their top players have been good so far – Diogo Jota’s been really sharp, Trent Alexander-Arnold could be back to his best, Luis Diaz and Mo Salah have looked really dangerous too.

And now they’ve added Federico Chiesa! It’s a fantastic signing. Two years ago he would’ve been worth £50 million and was one of the hottest properties around. Obviously he’s had his injury difficulties but he was the best player at the Euros when Italy won it and you are picking him up for £12 million. If he stays fit you’re going to have a top player.

Slot’s biggest problem now could be having too many good attacking players. Darwin Nunez might be frustrated this season by the looks of it. He didn’t get off the bench against Ipswich and only got a few minutes last weekend. He’ll still have a part to play but he’s probably not going to be first-choice.

Everything’s looked fine under him so far. This is weekend is the first big test for Liverpool under the new manager. As good as they’ve been, and as disappointed United will be with their result at Brighton, this is the first game where you think “let’s have a look at this team now.”

It will show us where the team is now, with Jurgen Klopp.

And United added to the squad and looked better in patches, though I still worry for them.

Brighton have a good team this year and they’ll take a few scalps, but it’s disappointing the way they were cut open there and I thought they were also lucky not to concede at times against Fulham too. They still look a bit too open to me and I don’t think they’re quite there yet – I cannot see them finishing in the top four right now.

Liverpool to win

Obviously we saw the FA Cup quarter final last season here, where United won in the end and form got turned on its head. People might bring that up in the build up to this game, and Liverpool’s season tailed off a bit after that, but a lot of time has passed since then, so, as a player, I don’t think it’ll be in players heads for this game and I think Liverpool will come through comfortably and win here.

Mo Salah to score

He has a great record at Old Trafford and scored again there back in March. He’s looks really sharp so far this season and I’d back him to score again.

Diogo Jota to have 1+ shots on target

And so does Jota. I expect Liverpool to win, and I can see them scoring two or three goals. If they do, he’s bound to be there or thereabouts and a shot on target seems very likely to me.

Bruno Fernandes to have 1+ shots on target

Joshua Zirkzee looks like the biggest goal threat for United at the moment, though he hasn’t started either game so far. He scored against Fulham and had that “unfortunate” offside situation against Brighton but he looks like he can get amongst the goals if he’s on the pitch.

I’m quite surprised to see Alejandro Garnacho on the bench too. I thought he was United’s best player last season and assumed he’d be in the team this year. Amad Diallo has impressed so far this season too, but Bruno Fernandes is always likely to have a shot or two, and will be on free-kicks and penalties so a shot on target seems a reasonable bet for him.

Casemiro to commit 1+ fouls

This is Man United versus Liverpool, so we’d expect a few tackles, cards and fouls, naturally. You could pick out a few names here, but Casemiro stands out to me as he should have to make at least one tactical intervention if Liverpool are breaking fast through United midfield.
