WHEN: Sunday, September 1 – 13:30
WHERE: Stamford Bridge

TEAM NEWS
Chelsea XI: Sanchez; Gusto, Fofana, Colwill, Cucurella, Caicedo, Enzo; Madueke, Palmer, Neto, Jackson.
Palace XI: Henderson; Munoz, Richards, Guehi, Clyne, Mitchell; Wharton, Hughes; Kamada, Eze; Mateta.

Noni Madueke to have 1+ shots on target

Crystal Palace’s pointless start to the season is difficult to comprehend. Oliver Glasner appeared to have his players singing from the same hymn sheet towards the tail end of last season, with Palace notching up 19 points from their last seven games, scoring 21 goals. They also registered a decent pre-season, going unbeaten in five games over the summer.

It is, therefore, quite perplexing that they have lost to both Brentford and West Ham in their opening two games of the season, looking nothing like the side that finished last season so strongly. They face a trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday to take on a Chelsea side that will be full of confidence after their emphatic 6-2 win at Wolves last weekend.

No Chelsea player will be more confident than Noni Madueke, who scored a stunning 14-minute hattrick to give Chelsea an unassailable lead in the second half. Madueke also scored in Chelsea’s first-leg victory against Servette in the Conference League play-offs and should be brimming with confidence on Sunday afternoon.

It would be very surprising if he didn’t try his luck against an out-of-form Palace, and there is every chance that he will hit the target, if not add to his Premier League account.

Jean-Philippe Mateta to have 1+ shots on target

Chelsea might have registered their first league win under Enzo Maresca last weekend, but they remain far from the finished article. The Blues conceded two sloppy goals in that 6-2 victory and somehow allowed Servette back into their Conference League play-off on Thursday night after leading 1-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate.

They have faced an average of 12 shots per game in the league this season and should give Palace a few chances.

Jean-Philippe Mateta is the most likely Palace player to cause Chelsea problems on Sunday after opening his account for the season with a two-goal haul against Norwich in the League Cup during the week. Mateta also enjoyed an excellent Olympic Games with France and is decent value to hit the target on Sunday afternoon.

Newcastle v Tottenham

WHEN: Sunday, September 1 – 13:30
WHERE: St James’ Park
TV: Sky Sports Premier League/Main Event

TEAM NEWS
Newcastle XI: Pope; Livramento, Krafth, Burn, Kelly; Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton; Barnes, Isak, Gordon.
Tottenham XI:
Vicario; Pedro Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison; Kulusevski, Son, Odobert.

Anthony Gordon to have 1+ shots on target

Anthony Gordon rescued a point for Newcastle at Bournemouth last weekend before scoring a penalty in their shootout victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup during the week. Gordon has averaged a shot per game in the league so far this season and should fancy his chances against a Tottenham defence that was one of the most open in the top half last season.

Tottenham conceded a whopping 61 goals in the league last season en route to a fifth-placed finish. Although the signs have been better so far this season, they have only faced opposition likely to be in a relegation battle come the end of the season.

Sunday is their first true test of the season, and Newcastle, and Gordon, should find some joy, especially in front of their own supporters.

Wilson Odobert to have 1+ shots on target

Wilson Odobert put in an encouraging display on his Tottenham debut last weekend and has probably done enough to retain his place in the starting line-up. He scored three times for Burnley in the Premier League last season and scored in his only Championship appearance for the Clarets this season before making the move to Tottenham.

He had one shot in Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Everton and averaged almost two shots per game in the league for Burnley last season. He is clearly not shy of having a go and represents a decent bet to find the target on Sunday.

Bruno Guimaraes to have 1+ shots on target

Bruno Guimaraes is certainly not shy of having a go. The Brazilian midfielder averages well over a shot per game from central midfield in his 88-game Premier League career and has chipped in with a relatively impressive 16 league goals since joining Newcastle in 2022.

Guimaraes hits the target with roughly one of every three shots and is certainly worth a punt on Sunday afternoon.
