Both Teams to Score – No
Chelsea will travel to Switzerland full of confidence after demolishing Wolves 6-2 at Molineux on Sunday. The Blues needed that performance and result after last Thursday’s lacklustre 2-0 win over Servette left some fans booing at halftime.
Servette were unlucky not to find the Chelsea net at Stamford Bridge, having been gifted a hatful of chances. The Swiss side had six shots on target last Thursday but couldn’t take advantage of them.
With their opponents growing into Enzo Maresca’s style and with a lead to protect, they will be determined not to give their hosts a sniff.
As Servette struggled to score against an unconfident Chelsea last week, I expect against a much more self-assured side; they could be in for a long night. So I’m backing Both teams to score – No.
Noni Madueke to score
Pedro Neto was the original pick for this leg, but he has not been included in the travelling squad. With Joao Felix ineligible for this round, it is likely that Noni Madueke will be in from the start for Chelsea this evening. The England u21 international has had quite a week after grabbing a goal in the first leg, insulting the entirety of Wolverhampton, and dropping a hat trick at Molineux on Sunday.
Madueke gave Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri a torrid time, twisting him inside out as he slotted home his first senior hat trick. He came off the bench in the second half against Servette last week, doubling Chelsea’s lead in the 76th minute with a strike on his weak foot. After scoring four goals in four days, he will be brimming with confidence and should get plenty of opportunities to add to that tally tonight in Geneva. So, I am backing Noni Madueke to score.
Christopher Nkunku to score
Another Chelsea forward who will get an opportunity to shine in Switzerland is Christopher Nkunku. The win against Wolves was the first time the Frenchman didn’t start this season, getting a solitary ten minutes from the bench.
Nkunku will be keen to impress after his teammates staked massive claims to take his starting spot, scoring and assisting at will. The former Leipzig man will be determined to make an impact in the Conference League second leg to get himself back into the forefront of his manager’s mind.
With that added incentive, expect Nkunku to be firing at will. After scoring, albeit from the penalty spot, after a relatively tepid performance in the first leg, you imagine he will get plenty of chances. So, I’m backing Christopher Nkunku to score.
