Galatasaray to win and Michy Batshuayi to score

Last week’s Young Boys win was a surprise, as they secured a 3-2 advantage to take into the second leg. It is the Swiss side’s only win this season against a professional side; they beat amateurs Printse-Nendz 10-0 in the Swiss Cup last weekend. They sit bottom of the league on two points, having won none of their five games.

The Turkish champions had Michy Batshuayi to thank for the fact that the deficit was not more significant last week after the Belgian grabbed two goals in two minutes off the bench. The goals took the striker’s tally to three for the season, putting him in line to start.

Galatasaray are two wins from two in the league and had the weekend off to prepare for this second leg. They should have the quality to overturn the deficit and secure their place into the Champions League proper here, so I’m backing Galatasaray to win and Michy Batshuayi to score.

8pm: Red Bull Salzburg v Dynamo Kyiv

Red Bull Salzburg to win and Maurits Kjærgaard to score

Red Bull Salzburg have won five of their six games this season, only drawing 3-3 away at FC Twente in the previous round of Champions League qualifying. The Austrian champions sealed qualification thanks to a 2-1 win at home in the first leg. They are currently at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga with three perfect wins from three.

Maurits Kjærgaard is the club’s top scorer this season, with five goals, four of which have come in the Champions League. The Dane scored his most recent from the spot in the first leg against Dynamo Kyiv. He will play a key role if Red Bull want to secure safe passage to the next stage.

Dynamo Kyiv had been in solid form before last week’s defeat, having already knocked out Rangers and Partizan Belgrade. However, they were no match for Red Bull who were more clinical in front of goal. The hosts have only lost once at the Red Bull Arena, in 2024, when they lost 3-4 to Sturm Graz in the Austrian Cup at the end of last season.

Therefore, I am backing Red Bull Salzburg to win and Maurits Kjærgaard to score here.

8pm: Sparta Prague v Malmö

UEFA Champions League qualifying second leg, epet ARENA, Prague
TV: TNT Sports 1

Sparta Prague to win

Sparta Prague have been experiencing a resurgence back to their best in the last three seasons and that was evident in their 2-0 win away at Malmö last week. The Czech side have won the league in consecutive seasons and currently sit top again with five wins from six, scoring 14 goals.

Malmö are also reigning champions after winning the 2023 Swedish Allsvenskan and are on the brink of retaining the title in 2024. Last week’s defeat to Sparta was only their fourth in the calendar year and second at home. The loss continued an unconvincing European football run after they knocked out Finnish side KÍ and squeezed past Greek side PAOK. This comes after they lost six out of six in the 2023 Europa League group stage.

Sparta haven’t reached the Champions League proper since 2006 and will be determined to seal the deal on Tuesday. Given Malmö’s questionable record, I am backing Sparta Prague to win.
