Celtic to have 7+ corners
The new season north of the border is just two games in. However, the Scottish Premiership table already has a familiar look, with Celtic sitting at the division’s summit following a return of two wins from two assignments.
Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops have been typically dominant across many metrics – including corner kicks – and the champions have won a healthy 7.5 corners per league fixture so far.
Celtic should be able to maintain that lofty corners-per-game average with room to spare against an inferior St. Mirren outfit at The SMISA Stadium, and the visitors are an attractive prospect for winning seven or more corners against The Buddies.
Last season, Celtic won a staggering 46 corners combined across their four Premiership encounters with St. Mirren, winning double-figure corners on each occasion, so expect a similar tally here.
It’s also worth noting that St. Mirren have conceded a notable seven corners per game in the early exchanges of the new campaign, and I’m tipping them to struggle in that department again on Sunday.
Over 2.5 goals
Goal-hungry Celtic have already plundered six goals in just two Premiership fixtures this season. They rattled the net another three times in their 3-1 League Cup triumph over Hibernian last weekend.
The Bhoys, who notched a searing 95 goals in the Premiership in 2023/24, continue to look a class above in Scotland, and they have the firepower to chase down another century of goals this time.
Celtic’s league fixtures averaged a division-high 3.29 goals last term, and all four league meetings with St. Mirren last season featured over 2.5 goals. Indeed, eight of the sides’ last nine competitive skirmishes have produced at least three goals overall.
St. Mirren conceded three goals in each of their last three Premiership encounters with Celtic alone, and the Hoops are likely to find more defensive gaps to exploit in the teams’ latest rendezvous on Sunday. Another high-scoring contest is the likely outcome.
Nicolas Kuhn to score
Nicolas Kuhn was a compelling force on the flank for Celtic at the back end of last season following his arrival during the January transfer window. However, the German was far from prolific, netting just three times in 18 appearances in league and cup during his maiden half-campaign in Scotland.
However, the 24-year-old has already stepped up this term, and Kuhn’s finishing has been razor-sharp. The ex-Rapid Vienna attacker bagged a brace in a pre-season friendly against English champions Manchester City, and that seems to have kicked his confidence up a notch.
Kuhn has scored in three successive competitive outings for Celtic since his double against the Citizens in North Carolina. He has also been averaging a lethal 3.17 shots on target per 90 minutes in the Premiership, which is already a massive jump on last season’s figure (0.58).
Look for Kuhn to maintain his early-season scoring streak at The SMISA Stadium.
Celtic to lead at half-time
Last season’s Scottish double winners, Celtic, haven’t wasted any time getting up to speed this season. Their first three competitive tests of the new campaign all featured rapid starts and early goals.
In their comfortable 4-0 opening win against Kilmarnock on August 4th, Celtic were ahead after 17 minutes and two goals to the good by the interval. That pattern repeated itself in their subsequent outings.
In their second Premiership test at Hibernian, the Hoops had their noses in front by the third minute, and they added a second 16 minutes later to secure a comfortable two-goal buffer during the break.
Likewise, they were two goals up by the 15th minute of their League Cup clash with Hibernian last weekend and eventually carried a lead into half-time for the third game on the spin.
Brendan Rodgers will want his Hoops to take command of Sunday’s meeting with St. Mirren as quickly as possible again, and another fast Celtic start looks possible. The champions were ahead at the break on each of their last two trips to play the Buddies at The SMISA Stadium, and that trend should continue here.
