Sunday night’s European football fixtures finds us looking for value in Ligue Un, Serie A, La Liga, and the Primeira Liga.
Football tipster Paddy Murphy’s dug into the stats for Rennes v Lyon, Cagliari v Roma, Lazio v Venezia, Mallorca v Real Madrid, and Boavista v Braga for a five-fold Acca, meaning you get your stake back should one leg let you down.

Rennes v Lyon – Lyon to win & over 2.5 goals
Ligue Un match at Roazhon Park, Rennes
Unfortunately, the powers that be haven’t sorted out who will be showing Ligue Un games this season, although negotiations are still proceeding behind closed doors. They just need to get their skates on, though.
Regardless, Rennes v Lyon matches tend to be worth watching. Five of their last six meetings have seen over 3.5 goals, and three of the last four played at Roazhon Park have also seen at least four goals.
The hosts ended last season with some bad home results, winning just one of their last five but at least managed to scored nine goals. Lyon won all four of their last five in the league and won four of their last five on their travels too, scoring a commendable 12 goals. Lyon to win and over 2.5 goals has loads of value.
Cagliari v Roma – Both teams to score

You don’t quite know whether to be excited for Daniele De Rossi’s Roma or fear for them. Romelu Lukaku is out, and Paulo Dybala is on his way out too. If Artem Dovbyk can match his Girona form from last season, though, things should be fine. Tammy Abraham will be eager to get going, too, after a frustrating season that saw him playing just eight Serie A games last term.
Roma have won three of their last five meetings against Cagliari, and we’ve seen plenty of goals in those games, too. All saw over 2.5 goals, and four saw over 3.5.
Nobody looks forward to taking on the hosts in their own backyard. They lost just three of their last 15 home league games last season and scored a healthy eight goals over their last five. Will a revamped Roma take the win? Well, over their friendlies, they could only draw with Everton and Kosice, yes, the place with the great beer, and lost to Toulouse, so we wouldn’t be backing them.
Yet, they should score as the hosts, while tough to beat, have long had a history of not being too bothered with defending. We’re playing this one safely and backing both teams to score.
19:45 Lazio v Venezia – Under 2.5 goals
Serie A match at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome

Lazio welcome Venezia back to the Serie A after an absence of two seasons. It looks like a good time to play Lazio too. Their talisman, Ciro Immobile left during the summer, and Marco Baroni has made the brave decision not to replace him with a goalscorer. Sure, they’ve got Pedro, who’s now 37, but of their other six forwards, they’ve only scored 17 Serie A goals, and three of them played for different clubs.
However, they won four of their last five on home soil last term and will be eager to get off to a good start, especially against a promoted side.
Venezia achieved promotion via the Playoff after finishing third last season, but they only won eight of their away games in Serie B last season, so they’re likely to find life in the top flight tough going again.
We can’t see many goals here and it’s likely to finish 1-0, 2-0 so we’ll go with under 2.5 goals.
Mallorca v Real Madrid – Kylian Mbappe to Score

Wednesday night gave us our first proper glimpse of Kylian Mbappe in action for Real Madrid. After seeing Jude Bellingham set him up for Real’s second goal against Atalanta in the Super Cup, it could be a long season for Spanish defenders.
The hosts have a good record against Los Blancos. They’ve beaten them twice over their last four home meetings, losing the other two by 0-1 and 0-3, so other than that 0-3, they’ve been able to put up a fight.
Can they stop Mbappe, though? Probably not, and seeing that his odds are over Evens to score here, we have to back him. It’s a bit like Erling Haaland in the Premier League: He’s usually odds-on to score, so when you see bigger odds beside his name, you take the value.
Boavista v Braga – Both teams to score
Primeira Liga match at the Estadio do Bessa Seculo XXI, Porto
Boavista won their opening Primeira Liga match away to Casa Pia last weekend, while Braga drew their opener at home to Estrela, another team with a beer named after it. However, they’ve also played four Europa League games, winning three and drawing one.
The hosts have scored in all but one of their last nine meetings when facing Braga at home and have only lost four times. Braga are odds-on here, and that’s not something I’d recommend betting on. The fact that the hosts scored in all but one of those 10 games and netted in eight of their last 10 at home means they should be scoring.
Braga have scored six away goals in Europe already and bagged 10 over their last five away league games. Both Teams to Score is the smarter play here.
