Man City to win

Manchester City look an excellent price to get their Premier League defence off to a successful start on Sunday against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues might have finished last season well, but the summer has been tumultuous with another change of manager. The net result has been a wretched run of results in friendly matches, going six without a win. Among these was a 4-2 loss against City just two weeks ago.

Pep Guardiola’s side might have drawn with Manchester United in the Community Shield last weekend before winning on penalties. Still, they should be considerably stronger for this clash, with the likes of Nathan Ake, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva all available to strengthen the team.

Erling Haaland anytime goalscorer

Haaland is a prolific scorer at the best of times, but this season, he could hit new levels. After all, he has not had the gruelling international schedule that many of his colleagues and Premier League rivals have had over the summer months.

The Norway star netted five pre-season goals across four games for Pep Guardiola’s side, including a hat-trick in Columbus against Chelsea. Incidentally, he was taken off at the break in the only game he failed to net in.

He failed to score in last weekend’s Community Shield clash against Manchester United, curiously not managing a shot, but after netting twice at Stamford Bridge last season, he will still travel with confidence.

Cole Palmer to have 1+ shots on target

For Cole Palmer, this will be a particularly special occasion as he will be coming up against his former club. Look for him to do everything to impress – and that means shooting at goal whenever the opportunity presents itself.

In this regard, he had an extraordinary record towards the end of last season. In Chelsea’s last 14 matches, he had at least one shot on target in 12 of them. In eight, he had multiple efforts on goal during a run that cemented his status as Chelsea’s best player.

City hold no fear for the England star. After all, he scored against them in a 4-4 draw at the Bridge last term.

Over 2.5 goals

Last season’s Premier League meetings between Man City and Chelsea were both memorable affairs.

While the November clash between the clubs, which finished 4-4, will be the game that lives long in the memory, there were also plenty of opportunities during a February encounter that finished 1-1. That is proven by the fact that there was a total of 4.0 xG in that clash, with 2.6 of that going the way of the eventual champions.

Although City only edged an FA Cup semi-final 1-0, the high-scoring nature of this rivalry was reinforced in the pre-season meeting between the teams, setting the scene for what promises to be an opening weekend cracker in London.

Over 4.5 cards

These games last season not only produced goals, but they also produced cards, loads of them.

Across the three fixtures last term, 18 yellows were shown at an average of 6 per match. Chelsea received twice as many as City, while the FA Cup clash was a 3-3 draw.

Moises Caicedo was booked in all three of these encounters and will be a prime candidate once again to receive a card in this game. Incidentally, the Ecuador international committed at least three fouls in each of those encounters.
