This should be a win for Liverpool. I saw quite a lot of Ipswich last year and boy do they press. They won’t have to change their style but the only problem is that they do give up chances. They’re not going to be one of the better teams in the league defensively.
I’d fancy Liverpool to win but I think Ipswich might score. It will be interesting to see what Liverpool are like because Arne Slot’s got massive boots to fill, that’s for sure.
Ipswich could start fast and put some pressure on but pretty much all of Liverpool’s first team are fit. They’re not missing anyone who would be playing, let’s put it that way.
Liverpool’s players are honest, and when I say that I mean they’ll want to win for this new manager who’s saying all the right things at the moment. It remains to be seen exactly how they start.
It’s one of those, you come back from pre season and you just want to play. You always want to get going and win that first game because it makes a massive difference in the changing room.
Diogo Jota on his day is as good a finisher as anybody. Unfortunately last year he was injured quite a lot so that’s Slot’s first problem, he’s got five strikers to keep happy.
They’re in a great place, if the first two or three don’t work there’s always a couple more to bring on. If you’re looking for someone to score it’s got to be Mo Salah.
5.30pm: West Ham v Aston Villa
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
I’d be looking for a home win here. David Moyes is my mate and I felt a bit miffed when they decided not to offer him a new contract!
He’d said to me before that it was difficult to get fantastic noise in the London Stadium because it’s not designed for football and is very, very open.
Julen Lopetegui’s a good manager and he’s been allowed to splash the cash. It looks like he’s splashed it wisely. Aston Villa were very, very good last year and it looks like they’ve improved the team apart from the fact that they’ve not replaced Douglas Luiz.
Villa had such a good season last year everyone expects them to do that again. I think they will eventually but I don’t fancy them to start particularly well. I’m going for West Ham to Win 1-0.
