Saturday evening’s Premier League offering sees West Ham hosting Aston Villa at the London Stadium. Hammers’ fans hope they’ll burst a few bubbles under new manager Julen Lopetegui, while the Villians are hopeful they can finish further up the table this season after their successes in the previous campaign.
Our football tipster Sam Farley has looked into the Super Sub markets with value on his mind for his West Ham v Aston Villa betting tips.

Jean-Clair Todibo to commit 1+ fouls
Jean-Clair Todibo has arrived from Nice and is expected to slot straight into a new-look West Ham back four alongside former Wolves man Max Kilman. The Frenchman impressed last season in Ligue 1, but the Premier League is a different beast, and he’s going to be up against Ollie Watkins, who had a memorable summer with England and is fresh off a 19-goal season last term.
He only averaged 0.8 fouls per game in Ligue 1 last season, but that was at one of the league’s best teams who finished fifth. Now he’s playing in a brand new league against a very good Aston Villa team.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka to commit 1+ fouls
One of Todibo’s new defensive partners is Aaron Wan-Bissaka who has arrived in East London after a disappointing spell at Man United. He never truly established himself as a starter at Old Trafford, thanks largely to his struggles with the ball at his feet.
Defensively, he’s always been sound, but he still averaged 0.8 fouls per game at United despite just 20 starts in the league. Now, he is going to have to deal with the pressure of a club debut and face Morgan Rogers, who has looked exceptional for Aston Villa in preseason.
Niclas Fullkrug to commit 1+ fouls
The third of West Ham’s new arrivals that we’ll be wagering on is Niclas Fullkrug. The German arrives after a reasonable season at Dortmund, scoring 12 in 29 Bundesliga games and some impressive cameos from the bench for the national team at Euro 2024.
He puts himself about as a striker, averaging 0.9 fouls per game for Dortmund in the Bundesliga and 0.8 times in the Champions League last term. Now he’s going to want to go out and prove himself at his new club. Expect a foul.
Ezri Konsa to commit 1+ fouls
The hardest positions in the Villa team to pick on Saturday are both fullback roles. The arrival of Ian Maatsen means he could replace Lucas Digne at LB, and RB is just as uncertain, with Matty Cash a potential starter. We might see Ezri Konsa move out there, allowing Pau Torres to partner Diego Carlos at centreback.
Regardless of where he plays, we know we’ll see Konsa on the field. He’ll either be matched up against the Hammers’ new striker, Fullkrug, or positioned out on the right, which will see him match up against Crysencio Summerville. Summerville, in particular, is a huge threat with his electric pace, and he’ll draw fouls all season, as he did drawing 1.8 per game in the Championship last season.
Amadou Onana to commit 1+ fouls
We’ve seen Everton lose Amadou Onana to Aston Villa, with the Belgian being one of the best performers at Goodison Park last season. The tall midfielder had a history of getting amongst it at Everton, getting 14 yellow cards in the past two Premier League seasons. He averaged 1.3 fouls per game in 22/23 and 1.2 in 23/24.
Now, the Belgian will be holding the midfield against a West Ham team that has a scary trio of Summerville, Mohammed Kudus, and Jarod Bowen behind Fullkrug. It’s quite likely he’ll bring at least one of them to ground.
Youri Tielemans to commit 1 or more fouls
Onana’s international midfield partner, Youri Tielemans, will be alongside him. The 27-year-old was a bit-part at Villa last season but should start here, partnering Onana with Douglas Luiz, who has left for Juventus.
He only picked up three yellow cards last season, but he averaged 1.22 fouls committed per 90 minutes on the pitch. Like Onana above, he faces a packed West Ham attack, which should lead him to commit one or more fouls.
