Bruno Fernandes to have One or More Shot on Target

Fresh from signing a new deal, Bruno Fernades could have a huge impact on Friday’s season opener.

The United captain showed moments of brilliance in last Saturday’s Community Shield against Manchester City, including a sensational effort that was correctly ruled out for offside.

He has scored four goals in his last four games against Fulham and is highly likely to try his luck on several occasions on Friday night.

He failed to score in United’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford last season but did register four shots on target on that occasion.

Fernandes ranked eighth in the league in terms of shots on target last season, averaging over one effort on target per game across the 2023/24 league season.

Frankly, no player is more likely to find the target at Old Trafford on Friday night.

Alejandro Garnacho to have One or More Shot on Target

Alejandro Garnacho showed no signs of lack of match sharpness when he returned to club duty in the Community Shield last week, providing a fine cameo appearance off the bench that resulted in a well-taken 82nd-minute goal that appeared to hand United victory.

Garnacho has never lacked confidence and, like Fernandes, featured near the top of the Premier League shooting charts last season.

The Argentine winger ranked ninth in terms of shots and 24th in terms of shots on target in the league last season and, like Fernandes, is extremely likely to find the target on Friday night.

Garnacho announced his arrival onto the Premier League scene with a stoppage time winner against Fulham two years ago. It wouldn’t be surprising in the slightest if he made an impact against them again this time around.

Rodrigo Muniz to have One or More Shot on Target

Rodrigo Muniz gave United a torrid time in Fulham’s victory at Old Trafford last March, bullying the United defenders throughout that shock away victory.

Muniz may not have scored on that occasion, but he did attempt five efforts on goal, hitting the target once.

The Brazilian finished as Fulham’s top scorer last season with 10 league goals to his name and will undoubtedly be a threat on Friday.

It remains to be seen whether Erik Ten Hag has addressed the deficiencies that saw United face a whopping average of 17.6 shots per game last season, the second-highest in the league after Sheffield United.

But if United’s pre-season is anything to go by, they remain vulnerable at the back and could provide Fulham with plenty of chances.

Muniz is likely to be on the receiving end of a few of them.

Alex Iwobi to have One or More Shot on Target

Alex Iwobi has now scored against United in back-to-back campaigns, scoring a delightful curling effort for Everton in the 2022/23 season before popping up with a 97th-minute winner for Fulham last season.

The Nigerian midfielder is not exactly known for his goalscoring prowess but did record his best-ever season in the league, scoring five goals for Fulham in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

He also attempted 55 shots in the league last season, the highest tally of his career to date, with 18 of those efforts hitting the target.

He is decent value to continue that trigger-happy form into the new season with a shot on target against United on Friday.
