Sheffield United v Wrexham
EFL Cup match at Bramall Lane, Sheffield
TV: Sky Sports Football/Main Event, Tuesday, 20:00
Both Teams to Score, No Draw
Both teams began their respective league campaigns over the weekend in the best way. Sheffield United were impressive in their 0-2 win away to Preston North End, scoring early in both halves to keep the hosts at bay.
Wrexham raced into a 2-0 lead before halftime and responded to Wycombe’s first goal by adding a third, with the away side getting a late consolation goal for them to take the three points with a 3-2 result.
The Blades won four of their five friendlies, drawing the other, but Wrexham had more impressive results. They drew with Bournemouth and Chelsea, beat Vancouver Redcaps, and beat Fleetwood and Hanley in run-of-the-mill games.
Both are in good form and scoring plenty of goals, conceding a few, too, so there’s plenty of value to be had in both teams scoring and this not ending level.
Keiffer Moore First Goalscorer
Acquiring the services of Keiffer Moore in their bid to make a swift return to the Premier League looks like a good bit of business for Chris Wilder’s side. The former Bournemouth man was brought in by Ipswich during the winter transfer window and contributed seven goals in the Tractor Boy’s successful run to the Playoff Final.
He’s a real nuisance to play against and should be among the goals here against a side that has conceded at least two over their last seven away competitive games. He’s at good odds to open the scoring, so we’re taking that option.
Sheffield United to Score in Both Halves
Conceding 20 goals over their last 10 competitive away games means you’d nearly have to give the hosts the nod here, but it’s not like the hosts are exactly famous for their ability to keep clean sheets. Indeed, even over their five friendlies, they only kept one clean sheet, against the mighty Chesterfield, and only kept one clean sheet last season at home in the Premier League. So we can’t rule out a Wrexham win.
Saying that, the hosts scored seven over their last five at home last season and have scored 14 over their last six, five of which were friendlies, so they’ve certainly got the fire power to get at least one goal per half here.
