18:00 Twente v RB Salzburg – Both Teams to Score, No Draw
19:30 PAOK v Malmo – PAOK to Win
19:30 FCSB v Sparta Prague – Sparta Prague to Win & Over 2.5 Goals
19:45 Rangers v Dynamo Kiev- Cyriel Dessers Anytime Goalscorer
Fenerbahce v Lille
Champions League Qualifier at the Ulker Stadyumu, Istanbul
Tuesday, 18:00
Eden Dzeko Anytime Goalscorer
Lille hold a slight advantage going into their second leg against Fenerbahce in Turkey, and it’s very much time to start getting serious about these qualifiers. Win this round, and both sides are just one more round from reaching the Champions League Group Stage.
The host’s forward line is stacked with goals, with former Inter and Man City striker Eden Dzeko leading the line supported by Dusan Tadic, Cenk Under, Allan Saint-Maximin, and, well, Cenk Tosun is there to lend a hand too. Jose Mourinho’s side are odds-on to take the victory here, and with Dzecko scoring five goals over his four games already this season, we have to give him the nod.
Twente v RB Salzburg
Champions League Qualifier at the De Grolsch Veste, Enschede
Tuesday, 18:00
Twente are trailing 2-1 following their defeat in last week’s first leg in Austria. They were very much outplayed, too, and only managed to get a late consolation goal in the 91st minute. A few Liverpool fans will be keeping an eye on Salzburg this season after former assistant manager Pep Ljinders took the job following Jurgen Klopp’s departure. Red’s Midfielder Bobby Clarke is set to join him in Austria soon too.
The hosts lost that first game of their season but won 1-2 away to NEC in the league over the weekend. Meanwhile, the Bulls have won all four of their competitive games, scoring a whopping 16 goals while conceding five.
Twente have scored a mammoth 15 over their last five competitive fixtures on home soil. We should see plenty of goals here, so we’re going with Both Teams to Score, No Draw.
PAOK v Malmo
Champions League Qualifier at the Stadio Toumbas, Thessaloniki
Tuesday, 18:30
PAOK to Win
Last week’s first leg was a swashbuckling affair which saw it ending 2-2 with seven yellow cards being brandished. PAOK have only played three games this season, two wins and one draw in the Champions League, while Malmo are midway through the Swedish Allsvenskan and sit atop the league with six points to spare.
The Greek side are very strong on home soil, winning four and losing one of their last five competitive games played at the Stadio Toumbas and Malmo aren’t the best travelers it must be said. The Swedes have won two, drawn one, and lost two over their last five on the road, and with temperatures set to be around 33°C at kickoff that can only work in the host’s favour.
FCSB v Sparta Prague
Champions League Qualifier at the Stadionul Steaua, Bucharest
Tuesday, 18:30
Sparta Prague to Win & Over 2.5 Goals
For us of a certain vintage, seeing who we used to call Steaua Bucharest take on Spara Prague has a certain tinge of romance. To make it even more interesting, it’s even poised after last week’s 1-1 result in Czechia.
The hosts have played 10 games already this season across three competitions and have lost just one, winning five and drawing four, while Sparta are seven games deep, winning six and drawing one.
The home side, though, looked shaky on home soil, winning just two of their five games, although they managed to find the net nine times over those five. Sparta, on the other hand, have won all three of their away matches this term, scoring eight times. With those goal-scoring stats in mind, backing Sparta to Win & Over 2.5 Goals has plenty of value.
Rangers v Dynamo Kiev
Champions League Qualifier at Hampden Park, Glasgow
TV: BBC Scotland/iPlayer, Tuesday, 18:30
Cyriel Dessers Anytime Goalscorer
We could be generous and say that Philippe Clement’s Rangers have started the season a little slowly. Or, we could tell the truth and say they’ve been, a bit ‘meh.’ They drew 0-0 in their opening Premiership game away to Hearts, drew 1-1 in the previous leg of this tie (with the game being played in Poland), and didn’t look too pushed in their 2-1 home win over Motherwell over the weekend.
Dynamo Kyiv have played four games this season, winning two and drawing one in the Champions League qualifiers and beating Veres Rivne in the domestic league last Friday.
You’d have to fancy that most of Ranger’s goals this season will come from their Nigerian international Cyriel Dessers, who scored 22 goals across all competitions last season. James Tavernier bagged 24, but that’s unlikely to happen again this season. Dessers has already scored twice this season and is decent odds to get on the scoresheet here.
