Sunday 13:30: Hibs v Celtic
Scottish Premiership match at Easter Road Stadium, Edinburgh
TV: Sky Sports Football/Main Event

‌Celtic -1

‌Celtic laid down a marker last weekend as they dismantled Kilmarnock 4-0 in their opening match of the Premiership season and will seek to build on that when they travel to Hibs on Sunday.

‌Brendan Rodgers’ side are in absolutely prolific form currently. They have scored four goals in each of their last four games, including friendlies. Before Kilmarnock, DC United, Manchester City, and Chelsea were their victims.

‌Hibs are unlikely to offer up too much more resistance given they have a new-look defence that shipped three goals against St Mirren last weekend.

‌With the Hoops having won four of their last seven against Hibs by at least two goals, expect a repeat in this game as the visitors continue their rampant form.

‌Over 2.5 Goals

‌It’s hard to see past goals in this fixture, which forms the first leg of a doubleheader between these teams with a League Cup encounter next weekend.

‌Celtic, after all, have scored 16 in their four matches and will expect to score on multiple occasions against a team that has kept only one clean sheet in its last four competitive matches – that against League Two outfit Peterhead in the League Cup.

‌The Hibees, meanwhile, are capable of finding the net themselves. They have scored nine goals in their home fixtures against Queen’s Park and Peterhead, while they generated 1.58 xG against St Mirren last weekend without scoring.

‌While David Gray’s side should carry a threat, it is their defence where there are real question marks, and Celtic could be in for a big score.

Celtic to have 7 or more Corners

‌Celtic as a team were a corner-winning machine last season and started this campaign in a similar fashion, winning 10 flag kicks against Kilmarnock at home.

‌On their two visits to Easter Road last season, they were below average in their corner count. However, both of these games were played in a tricky context. The October draw arrived after an intense Champions League draw in midweek against Atletico Madrid, while February’s 2-1 success was achieved during the club’s most difficult point of the season.

‌Expect the usual order to be restored in this encounter.

‌Nathan Moriah-Welsh to be Shown a Card

‌Hibs’ central midfield enforcer Nathan Moriah-Welsh is the likeliest player to receive a card in this game, having already seen yellow this season against St Mirren. In that fixture, he was guilty of committing three fouls – the only player in the Hibees’ ranks to give away multiple free kicks.

‌The 22-year-old only arrived at Hibs midway through last season, but he already has history with Celtic. In his only previous meeting with the Hoops, he was shown a yellow card after committing three fouls.

‌With Rodgers’ side drawing a yellow card from Kilmarnock midfielder Liam Donnelly, who plays the same role as Moriah-Welsh, last weekend, the Guyana international is likely to come under pressure.

‌Nicolas Kuhn to have 1 or more Shots on Target

‌There are indications that Nicolas Kuhn is going to have a breakout season with Celtic after showing promise at the end of last term.

‌Indeed, after netting against Kilmarnock last weekend, the German can justifiably lay claim to having played his best match to date with the club he joined in January from Rapid Wien.

‌Kuhn not only scored but also had four shots, all of which hit the target. Celtic’s style in that encounter seemed to encourage the winger to get into promising areas.

‌After also scoring twice against Manchester City in the Hoops’ penultimate friendly, his confidence should be soaring. Expect him to try his luck at every given opportunity.
