NK Celje v Shamrock Rovers
Europa League Qualification match at the Stadion Z’dezele, Celje
19:15

Both Teams to Score

The old UEFA coefficients come in handy when such match-ups occur. Slovenia’s Celje are currently ranked 272nd, while Shamrock Rovers are 152nd. Another rating method becoming more popular among punters is the ELO system (world football rankings), which have the hosts rated as 1354 while Rovers are ranked 1192.

The betting odds would certainly support the ELO. The hosts are odds-on despite being far lower in the UEFA rankings. The good news for Rovers, though, is that their opponents have only played two league games this season, winning both, and four Champions League qualifiers, winning two, drawing one and losing one.

Rovers have played 30 games this season, and their game plan is going to be all about keeping it tight and having something to play for in the return leg next week. They’ll take plenty of confidence from the fact that Celje have conceded in all but one of their six games this season and in 10 of their last 11 on home soil. Both Teams to Score should be landing here.

Halftime Draw

The hosts have only scored two first-half goals over their last five on home soil, and we see the same stat when looking at previous away Shamrock Rovers matches. We’ve also seen three halftime draws over those five games for both sides, so we’re getting some value here in the Halftime Draw price.

St Patrick’s Athletic v Sabah Baku
Europa Conference League match at Tallaght Stadium, Dublin
19:45

Both Teams to Score

Richmond Park was good enough for St Pat’s 3-1 win over Vaduz in the last round, but they must leave Inchicore for Tallagh to take on Azerbaijan’s Sabah Baku. Like Shamrock Rovers above, St Pats are also 30 games into their season. Sabah have played one league game so far, drawing it, and won one and lost one in their Conference League games so far, going through on penalties against Maccabi Haifa.

Is this a ‘proper’ home game? It’s in Dublin, their fans, and more, will be there. Surely the players will be able to handle the surroundings of a different changing room and parking spots.

It’s close in the UEFA rankings, 342nd v 306th, while in the ELO, there’s a fair gap between them, 1197 v 1372. Again, Paddy’s odds are more representative of that, as the away side are just above Evens to take the victory.

The hosts have scored a decent amount of goals of late, netting eight over their last three games and six over their last three as the home team. Sabah have also scored eight over their three games so far this season and four over their last three away games. With Pat’s failing to keep a clean sheet in any of their last five competitive games, Both Teams to Score looks like a good shout here.

Draw

Life under Stephen Kenny hasn’t really gone according to plan for St Pats, but the signs are sprouting. Over their last eight games in all competitions, they’ve only lost twice. When playing at home, they’ve only lost one of their last five, although with the caveat that this isn’t a ‘proper’ home game.

We can’t dismiss Sabah, however. Their eight goals over their three games so far cannot be sniffed at, but facing St Pat’s, who are proven difficult to beat, we reckon honours will be shared here.
