Monday 20:00: St Johnstone v Aberdeen
Scottish Premiership match at McDiarmid Park, Perth
TV: Sky Sports Football, Sky Sports Main Event
Aberdeen to Win
St. Johnstone and Aberdeen were well matched in the Scottish Premiership last season, with Aberdeen winning once, St. Johnstone winning once, and the other two league games ending in a draw.
Aberdeen, however, are clearly the better of the two sides, finishing 13 points above St. Johnstone in the league table and reaching the final of the Scottish League Cup.
They have enjoyed an impressive summer, winning all five of their pre-season friendlies and Scottish League Cup games.
St. Johnstone, on the other hand, have won six of their seven games over the summer but went down to a 3-2 defeat against Alloa Athletic in the League Cup at the end of July.
Aberdeen should shade what will be a tight game on Monday night.
Under 2.5 Goals
Whatever the result on Monday, it is unlikely to be a high-scoring affair.
Four times Aberdeen and St. Johnstone faced off last season, four times the games featured two goals or fewer.
St. Johnstone’s tally of 29 league goals was also the joint-lowest recorded in the Scottish Premiership last season.
They are unlikely to change that poor goalscoring habit for the upcoming campaign, with all signs pointing towards a low-scoring affair on Monday.
Bojan Miovski to Score Anytime
Aberdeen endured a poor campaign last season, finishing in the bottom half for the second time in three seasons.
They would have fared an awful lot worse were it not for the goalscoring exploits of Bojan Miovski.
The Macedonian forward scored 16 league goals last season, at least seven more than any other Aberdeen player, while he scored 26 goals in all competitions, more than double the tally of any other player at the club.
There is no player more likely to get himself on the scoresheet in Monday night’s season opener.
3 or More St Johnstone Cards
Not only did St. Johnstone finish with the worst goalscoring record in the Scottish Premiership last season, but they also boasted the worst disciplinary record in the division.
With a record of 75 bookings and three red cards, St. Johnstone averaged over two cards per game in the league.
They were one of only three teams to average more than two cards per game last season and it would not be at all surprising if they picked up at least three cards during Monday’s season opener – likely to be a feisty affair as both sides go in search of a statement win early in the campaign.
Corner Match Bet: Aberdeen
Aberdeen and St. Johnstone were among the worst teams in the Scottish Premiership in terms of winning corners last season.
Both sides found themselves near the bottom of the table in terms of corners per game, but Aberdeen boasted a considerably higher average than their opponents on Monday night.
Jimmy Thelin’s side averaged around 4.5 corners per game last season, leaving them with the third-lowest total of any team in the division.
St. Johnstone, meanwhile, averaged just over 3.5 corners per game, with only Livingston recording a smaller average.
There is nothing to indicate that St. Johnstone will win more corners than Aberdeen on Monday night.
