14:00: Morocco v USA – Morocco to Win
The US look to be going backwards if you take note of their recent performances in FIFA-happy competitions. Morocco, meanwhile, have thrown some darts here because they genuinely believe they can go toe-to-toe against France to win it.
Their designated exception players consist of Soufiane Rahimi who’s already notched four goals in the groups, a 35-year-old goalkeeper (Munir Mohamedi) which is always advisable in what are essentially underage tournaments and none other than Achraf Hakimi.

The biggest issue with Spain’s underage teams is that their entire MO is the structure being perfect and committing to a way of playing. It’s kind of like academy football, and while it obviously reaped rewards in Germany last month, it means their underage participation is a bit naff.
That’s why Japan, who admittedly had the handiest draw but came through it without a goal conceded, should be the play here.
They landed fourth-placed finishes in two of their last three Olympic Games, and with nearly half of their players plying their trade in Europe, this Japan side are a little bit more savvy than their counterparts of 2020.
18:00 – Egypt v Paraguay – Both Teams to Score
If this seems like I couldn’t pick between the two, that’s because it probably is.
But I do have full faith in the madcap nature of South American nations in these tournaments, which has already been highlighted by their goals scored and goals conceded column in the round robins.
Just the twelve goals in Paraguay’s three games. They’re clearly trying to claim the old standard of Copa America pride by simply having a good laugh with very little structure, and while their Maghreb counterparts can hardly boast an entertaining slate so far, knockouts tend to produce the opposite to what they do in bigger international tournaments – goals.
20:00: France v Argentina – France to Win
I mean, they should be a shorter price to win the tournament than they are – that much is clear to me.
But what I find most compelling about this France team is that they’re at home, so the desire to win the tournament far exceeds anyone else’s.
That’s quite clear when you shock-see Alex Lacazette walk out the tunnel.
They waltzed through the groups and they’ll waltz through this lot as well.
