Sunday 1am: Canada v Uruguay
Copa America 3rd-place Play-off
Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte
Premier Sports
Under 2.5 Goals
It is the battle of the former Leeds managers as Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay take on Jesse Marsch’s Canada in the 3rd place play-off at the Copa America. It is unlikely to be a high-scoring affair, based on the two teams’ recent performances at the tournament.
Canada have scored just two goals at the Copa America, conceding five goals across five games, with four of those coming in two separate games against world champions Argentina. They have not yet been involved in a game with two goals or more and have shown commendable defensive solidity in the tournament so far.
Uruguay, on the other hand, started the tournament in eye-catching fashion, scoring eight goals in their opening two games against Panama and Bolivia. They have become more pragmatic as the tournament went on, however, scoring just one goal in their last three games against USA, Brazil, and Colombia. They have not scored a goal in the knockout stages to date and have rarely looked like doing so.
This may be a meaningless game in the grand scheme of things, but both sides will want to finish third and it could subsequently be as cagey as their previous knockout games.
Canada to have 4 or more Shots on Target
Canada may have only scored twice in the tournament, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t had a go.
Despite being outmatched in terms of personnel against Argentina on Tuesday night, they caused plenty of problems for the world champions in that 2-0 loss, registering nine shots and forcing Emi Martinez into big saves in both halves.
Had they bean a bit less wayward with their shooting, they would have registered more than the two efforts on target that they managed. However, Canada average four shots on target in games not against Argentina and face a Uruguay outfit that has faced an average of three shots on target per game at the Copa America so far.
It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if Marsch’s side hit the target four times.

Over 4.5 Cards
Uruguay have had a man sent off in both of their knockout games to date, picking up a total of seven cards in those two games.
Canada, on the other hand, received three bookings in the defeat against Argentina and two more in their penalty shootout victory over Venezuela. Marsch’s side average 14 fouls in the knockout stages, while Uruguay have averaged almost 20 fouls across the quarter and semi-final.
Bielsa’s side committed a staggering 26 fouls against Brazil in that penalty shootout victory, yet they only received two bookings and a sending off for their trouble.
They were far better disciplined in the group stage, but still conceded at least 12 fouls per game. It is not unthinkable that they will commit a similar number of fouls on Saturday night and pick up a fair number of cards.
Between them, Canada and Uruguay should reach at least five cards.
Nahitan Nandez to Commit 3 or more Fouls
Uruguay are a good bet to commit at least a dozen fouls on Saturday night and Nahitan Nandez is equally good value to be responsible for a significant number of them.
The right-back has averaged a whopping 3.3 fouls per game at the tournament, which is by far the most of any Uruguay player and the fifth-highest average in the Copa America as a whole.
Nandez will be tasked with dealing with Alphonso Davies, should the Bayern Munich star recover from an injury picked up in the Argentina defeat, while he will also have to cope with the duo of Cyle Larin and Jonathan David up front.
It is not inconceivable by any means that he will commit at least three fouls.
Federico Valverde to have 1 or more Shots on Target
Only Darwin Nunez averages more shots per game for Uruguay than Federico Valverde at the Copa America. The Real Madrid midfielder averages 2.6 shots per game at the competition, a fairly high number for a midfielder.
He boasts the ninth-highest average in terms of shots per game and is likely to try his luck on several occasions against a Canada side that has routinely faced 10 shots or more.
Valverde has already scored once at the competition, netting in the 5-0 victory over Bolivia in the group stage. He will surely be keen to add to his tally and could easily test Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau.
