Euro 2024 Quarter-Final match at Merkur Spiel-Arena, Dusseldorf
Where to watch: BBC1, RTE2

I don’t think anyone could say they saw that equaliser coming against Slovakia. I really thought we were out.

I know it’s difficult to break down teams when they put players behind the ball but there are enough players in that team that are used to playing against a defensive low block.

But we were completely devoid of ideas. I couldn’t believe how many crosses we were putting into the box. It felt like that was our only way through.

If you’re going to keep putting these hopeful crosses in, you might as well play Ivan Toney in my view.

When he came on he made an impact because we were already playing to his strengths rather than the way the rest of the team wants to play.

I don’t think that it was tactical, it’s just that we were out of ideas and the best way to score was to throw it in there and hope.

And while we’re not playing great, that goal shows what you can do when you have top players in your side. They can come up with moments of magic.

England can still win this tournament even if they’ve not been playing anywhere near their best.

Spain and Germany have looked the two best teams so far, but one of them is going out in this round. Watching Turkey the other night was unbelievable too, and Holland looked better in their game as well.

And you can’t underestimate Switzerland either. They look more cohesive than we do at the moment and every team at this stage can hurt you – we saw that with Slovakia’s goal.

So England can’t take anything for granted now and the way we are playing, I think everyone knows this is going to be a really tough game.

England to Win

I hope the rumour of a back-three being used is true. That would give more balance to the team with Kyle Walker at centre-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right and Bukayo Saka as a left wingback.

I don’t see why you can’t get Toney alongside Harry Kane up-front then. If we have two in the box, pace down the sides then we can get crosses in – it’s how we’ve played anyway!

Why not have two players who are great crossers playing them in to two targets? And you’ve Bellingham as well who could come from deep. That’s a three-pronged attack that I would go with.

The manager would have a decision to make in midfield. I’d go on the attack and keep Phil Foden in the team at 10 with Bellingham alongside Declan Rice and Kobbie Mainoo in reserve.

I want us to be on the front foot. We saw the Turkey-Austria match. Part of you doesn’t even mind if you go out if you’re in one of those teams because you really gave it everything.

That’s what I want from England and I think they’ll win on Saturday if they do.

Both Teams to Score: Yes

Switzerland will come out more than Slovakia as well. They’ll probably have more chances too and we saw the Slovaks get ahead in the last-16 game. I’d expect the Swiss to score in this too as they have the players to do damage.

Harry Kane to Have 1 or More Shots on Target

Like I said, I’d start Ivan Toney with Harry Kane and get the ball into the box from wide. They’ll both get chances like that and Harry should have at least one on target.

Jude Bellingham to Commit 1 or More Fouls

It looks like Jude Bellingham will play rather than having to sit it out due to a suspension. He picked up a card in the last match and is always likely to give up a foul or two.

Ruben Vargas to Have 1 or More Shots on Target

He scored against Italy and looks a player. I’d take him to have a shot on goal at least.
