Cristiano Ronaldo will be desperate to make amends for his fluffed spot-kick against Slovenia when Portugal face France on Friday night.
The Portuguese superstar was reduced to tears after seeing his extra-time penalty saved by Jan Oblak. That was one of eight shots in a barrage of efforts from the Selecao skipper who is becoming increasingly desperate to end a four-game scoring drought at Euro 2024.
While he is unlikely to be presented with as many goalscoring opportunities against Didier Deschamps’s rock-solid French defence, Ronaldo can register at least one on-target effort on Friday night. Ronaldo has averaged 2.25 shots on target across his opening four appearances at Euro 2024, working the opposition goalkeeper at least once in each of those four matches.

Antoine Griezmann missed numerous opportunities against the Netherlands on matchday two, hitting the target with three of his efforts on goal. The French playmaker also tested Belgium goalkeeper Koen Casteels during Les Bleus’ 1-0 win over the Red Devils last Monday.
Consequently, only Kylian Mbappe (6) has racked up more on-target efforts for France at Euro 2024 ahead of their quarter-final clash with Portugal.

Jules Kounde was one of France’s standout performers against Belgium, expertly defusing the threat provided by Jeremy Doku. The French right-back will now have his sights set on performing an equally admirable shackling job when faced with Portuguese livewire Rafael Leao.
AC Milan’s dazzling winger regularly finds himself getting roughed up by opposition defenders. Leao has already earned the Selecao four free kicks at Euro 2024, including three against Slovenia last time out, not to mention he was one of the most-fouled players in Serie A last term, drawing an average of 1.86 free kicks per game. Given that Kounde committed two fouls last time out, he represents a nice slice of value for a solitary misdemeanor on Friday night.

Portugal warhorse Pepe will relish his battle with France’s vibrant frontline on Friday night. The 41-year-old’s age-defying performances at Euro 2024 have earned him plenty of plaudits but this will be a major test of his mettle.
Pepe’s mastery and use of the game’s dark arts are likely to be on display against Les Bleus, making him an appealing option to commit a foul. The veteran centre-half was reprimanded against Slovenia last time out and he is expected to suffer the same fate against a French side laced with world-class talent.
