In the early hours of Tuesday morning we wrap up Group C of this year’s Copa America with Bolivia v Panama and USA v Uruguay. 2am: Bolivia v Panama

Panama to Win

Panama currently sit third in the group on goal difference but with the USA facing Uruguay this gives them a chance to catapult themselves into the next round with a win. Bolivia aren’t ever as good on the road when they don’t have the advantage of high altitude and are yet to score a goal in the tournament, they’ve lost 2-0 to the Americans and were smashed 5-0 by Uruguay last time out.

Panama’s team aren’t packed with real starts but one thing they have is real heart. They kept going against Uruguay in their opening game and got a 94th minute consolation and had an 83rd minute winner over the USA in a hard fought, aggressive win. That mentality will get them across the line against a poor Bolivia.

Over 1.5 Bolivia Cards

We’ve seen the Bolivians pick up an average of two bookings per game so far and they now head into a clash against a Panama side who really fight when they play. Panama have had four yellows and a red so far and should be the perfect opposition to get Bolivia two or more yellows.

This is the last game at the tournament for Bolivia barring an insanely high scoring win here and the Uruguayans winning, so they’ll be looking to go for broke and leave everything out on the field. That should help get this encounter fiery and the two Bolivian bookings we need.‌

2am: USA v Uruguay

Darwin Nunez to Score

The Americans will be worried heading into this game, after a clean sheet against Bolivia they gave up two goals and three points to Panama and now face a Uruguayan team who have scored eight goals in just two matches.

The Uruguayan’s best player has been Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez, who has bagged two goals himself but has torn defences apart with his speed and directness. He’s come into his own here and his chemistry with Maximiliano Araujo is threatening. The 25-year-old has averaged a goal a game and will fancy his chances of continuing that here.

Nahitan Nandez to Commit 1 or More Fouls in the First Half

The biggest shock of Copa America for far is that Nahitan Nandez has committed five fouls through two games and is yet to get a booking. The Uruguayan right-back has been great so far, getting forward when needed but also breaking up play, averaging 2.5 tackles per game. The big issue is how many times he fouls.

Given that he’ll be up against Christian Pulisic, aka the ‘LeBron James of soccer’, it might be a tricky evening for him. Pulisic has been arguably the USA’s best player so far with a goal and assist and it’s likely we see Nandez foul him early.

Both Teams to Score

No team has scored more goals than Uruguay so far and the USA have a team packed with quality in the final third such as Pulisic, Folarin Balogun and Brenden Aaronson. Given that the USMNT realistically need a result here and that Panama are heavy favourites against Bolivia, it means they will really go for it.

That should give them plenty of chances to score a goal past a good Uruguayan team but it also leaves them open at the back, especially with keeper Matt Turner an injury doubt. This game has a real chance to become a shoot-out with plenty of goals and at least one for both sides.
