Kylian Mbappe to Score or Assist

Kylian Mbappe was on the scoresheet in the last game against Poland, which was his first goal for France at the European Championship. He’s an absolutely vital cog in the Didier Deschamps system, exemplified by France failing to score in the one group stage game he missed. Looking back into France’s June friendlies, he was also omitted from the squad in a goalless draw against Canada.

The Real Madrid man has been directly involved in each of the last five goals scored by Les Bleus, by virtue of scoring or providing an assist. Against Belgium, his electrifying pace will cause problems up against 37-year-old Jan Vertonghen and Wout Faes, putting him in prime position to continue his exploits in front of goal.

France Goalkeeper to Make 2+ Saves

Although France have conceded just one goal so far, Mike Maignan has been kept relatively busy with nine saves, averaging exactly three saves per game. The AC Milan shot-stopper is certainly trusted by his backline, as he currently boasts a 90% save rate at Euro 2024.

Belgium have blanked in two of their three games so far in Germany, but that’s not for the want of trying. The Red Devils accrued 48 shots in Group E – an average of 16 shots per game. Belgium drew at least four saves from the opposition goalkeeper in every game. Although France present a tougher matchup, Domenico Tedesco has a plethora of attacking talent at his disposal that can certainly cause France problems.

Belgium to Commit 11+ Fouls

In round three, Poland struggled to deal with the pace and trickery of France, finishing with 15 fouls committed. They weren’t the only team to struggle to contain the French players, as Netherlands also made 13 fouls, and Austria 18 infringements in round one.

Belgium have opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation so far, with Kevin de Bruyne operating in quite a free role. Because of his reluctance to track back, Belgium have looked quite vulnerable in transition, which France certainly have the tools to exploit. Given the lack of pace within the Belgian ranks, they should get tight to the French players, which should lead to soft free kicks conceded and cynical fouls.

Timothy Castagne to Commit 1+ Fouls

Out of all the Belgian players, Timothy Castagne draws perhaps the toughest matchup, as he will have to attempt to contain Bradley Barcola and Kylian Mbappe. Against Poland, 48% of French attacks came through the left-wing, the flank which Castagne is set to occupy. Przemyslaw Frankowski made two fouls in that game, as Mbappe drew one foul, and Barcola drew three.

Prior to that game, Denzel Dumfries made four fouls from right back against France. His tendency to get forward found him in duels with Theo Hernandez, who has drawn six fouls so far at the Euros – the joint-most for France. Stefan Posch also made two fouls in matchday one, highlighting a real difficulty for opposing right backs when facing France.
