Over 3.5 Cards

There has been a trend in both Slovenia and Portugal matches so far this tournament for yellow cards.

Both teams began with matches that had three yellows, but in the second and third group games more were given. Slovenia v Serbia had six yellows given and there were five in the match against England. Portugal v Turkey saw five yellows, all in the first half incidentally, and four against Georgia.

That is an average of 4.33 yellows given in matches involving these teams so far.

Importantly, in the friendly between the two nations in March, there were four cards given out as well, which, for a friendly, is a good indicator for a form line ahead of this match.

There looks to be a number of potential areas for fouls with good ball carriers and technical players combined with regular high foul contributors on both sides.

Vitinha to be Fouled 2+ Times

In a similar vein, the Portuguese midfielder looks to be quite underpriced for fouls on him ahead of the match.

The PSG man was fouled three times in the opening match of the tournament against Czech Republic, and then four times in the very next match against Turkey.

This spurt of fouls has now taken Vitinha’s average fouls per 90 in competitive matches for Portugal up to 2.75 fouls against per 90, so if the trend continues the two fouls against line looks great value to add to the bet builder.

Central midfielders playing in a two against Portugal have had a hard time of it in terms of fouls committed. The Turkish midfield pair both conceded two fouls, so the combative pair of Adam Cerin and Timi Elsnik could also struggle to keep a lid on Vitinha and his midfield colleagues.

Vanja Drkusic to Commit 1+ Fouls

The Sochi central defender is having a good tournament considering his very first competitive start for Slovenia was in the opening group game.

However, what has become apparent in Drkusic’s game is how physical he is as a defender. He did manage to concede four fouls in a substitute appearance against San Marino in qualifying so perhaps we should’ve seen it coming, but Drkusic’s price hasn’t been adjusted enough to his style.

Drkusic has fouled in each of the matches at the tournament, four fouls in total. However, there have been other physical battles, such as almost chopping down Phil Foden after two minutes in the last match, where he could easily have been pinged for more fouls.‌

Bruno Fernandes to Have 1+ Shots on Target

Fernandes actually has a long history of getting a good volume of shots off, despite having to share the pitch with Cristiano Ronaldo for most of the time with Portugal.

Fernandes has had at least one shot in each of his last 13 competitive internationals, with nine of them also having a shot on target as well, including seven of his last eight competitive international starts.

He is Portugal’s most regular shot on target hitter, who is likely to be in the starting XI, after Ronaldo. He shares set piece detail with Ronaldo, and he isn’t frightened to let fly from range either. While Ronaldo is still the big attraction, it is generally felt that Fernandes has grown into the role of running the show on the pitch. While he still clearly looks up to Ronaldo, he is not afraid to take a chance on its merits to get a shot away.
