Paddy ambassador Phil Thompson is back for Monday evening football for the potential tie of the round with France v Belgium in the Euro 2024 Round of 16.

Les Bleus haven’t set the competition alight as they only finished second in their group, finding themselves on the ‘bad’ half of the knockouts. Belgium were a surprise second in Group E behind Romania and not many give them a chance in this match.

Thommo’s coming into this one in red-hot form after slamming in 6/1 and 17/1 punts on Germany v Denmark on Saturday night. But where is his cash going on this one?

I’m not particularly happy with what I have seen from France so far, they started all right with a win against Austria but looking at the way they played in their other games, they were underwhelming.

I know we say England have got a good team, a good squad. But look at this French team, wow! What a team they have!

You look at them on paper, they should be winning every game at a canter, but they’re not. They stumbled through the group stages.

However, Belgium have been even worse. They have been absolutely torrid. They only scored two goals in a group you would have expected them to romp through.

There’s a chance that in a bigger game against a big-name opponent, Belgium might turn up and make it difficult.

I do think it will be tough for France, but I will go for France to Win 2-1.
