Declan Rice to commit 1+ fouls

The Arsenal midfielder has begun to put together a strong recent set of data for fouls in England matches.

He hasn’t always been a regular fouler for England, but his role in the team at the moment seems to bring more fouls out of him as he has committed at least one foul in each of his last six England matches.

In two of those matches, he has committed two fouls, including his last appearance against Slovenia. He is one of England’s key players, he is rarely, if ever substituted, (but Super Sub is in play with this selection anyway) he has played every minute of the Euros campaign so far.

He is also up against players who are regularly fouled. Juraj Kucka, Ondrej Duda, and Lukas Haraslin all average over two fouls against them per 90 in their Slovakia careers and Stanislav Lobotka is a wily operator as well, and one can see Rice mistiming a press or a challenge against Lobotka, or preventing a counter-attack against Haraslin as a potential foul.

Harry Kane to be fouled 2+ times

Harry Kane is an experienced striker at this stage and he knows exactly how to use his body to draw fouls from his opposition defenders if and when required.

His technical skill means he can control long balls exceptionally well and keep between the ball and his marker. We saw this multiple times against Serbia when England were 1-0 up, and Kane was fouled six times in that match.

He was also fouled twice against Slovenia, so that is two out of three matches in Euro 2024 that this line has been beaten. If we add this to his record in recent major championships then this bet makes compelling sense. He has been fouled twice or more in nine of his last 15 tournament matches, averaging 2.07 fouls per 90 over those matches.

If England do get a lead then this bet will look even better, but even without one, there is a strong chance of it landing.

David Hancko to be fouled 1+ times

The Slovakian left-back is one of the more in-demand players on the transfer market at the moment. His club performances for Feyenoord have brought him to the attention of many of the bigger clubs in Europe, but we are more interested in his ability to draw fouls in this instance.

He has been selected for this bet because he has been fouled at least once in every match in this tournament and averages just over a foul against him over Slovakia’s last 17 competitive internationals going back to the last Euros.

There is also the matter of his direct opponent to consider in this bet. He is likely to be up against Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who committed two fouls against Slovenia and also two against Serbia in the opening match. Indeed, Saka is England’s second-most regular fouler over competitive internationals going back to the last Euros with 1.61 fouls per 90. Not all of these will be against the left back of course, but it does make the price for Hancko to be fouled look quite tasty.

Phil Foden to have 2+ shots

There have been signs in the last two matches that Phil Foden has been taking more responsibility onto his shoulders in terms of trying to provide England with some dynamism in the final third.

He has let off seven shots in the last two matches, having not had any in the opening match against Serbia. This means that two of the three matches have seen the tipped line be beaten, four shots against Denmark and three against Slovenia, and it seems like Gareth Southgate has begun to trust him more if his minutes in this tournament are anything to go by.

He has missed only 22 minutes of the tournament so far, and thinking back to the World Cup knockout matches, he started both matches against Senegal and France as well, playing 85 minutes against the latter.

If we include the friendly international warm-ups Foden has equalled or surpassed two shots in a match in four of his last five England matches.
