Spain to Win

Spain are short-priced favourites to defeat Georgia on Sunday night and they should secure their spot in the quarter-finals with relative ease.

This will be the third competitive meeting between the two nations since last September, with Spain comfortably dispatching the Crusaders 10-2 over two Euro 2024 qualifying matches.

Those two victories form part of La Roja’s current nine-game winning run in competitive action, so Luis de la Fuente’s side are riding the crest of a wave at the moment.

While Georgia produced an exceptional performance to stun Portugal, facing a full-strength Spain side will be a different kettle of fish. The quick turnaround the Georgians face could also take its toll following their midweek exertions

High-flying Spain, on the other hand, will be well-rested and fully prepared for Sunday’s fixture, and their superior class should ultimately tell.

Alvaro Morata to Score

Georgia were trounced 7-1 on home turf by Spain during Euro 2024 qualifying, with Alvaro Morata helping himself to a hat-trick during that Tbilisi triumph. As such, the Spanish skipper will be licking his lips at the prospect of coming up against the Crusaders again on Sunday night.‌

Morata is already up and running at Euro 2024, having scored Spain’s opening goal of the tournament in their 3-0 success against Croatia.‌

While Georgia managed to keep a clean sheet against a much-changed Portugal side, they did leak four goals across their two Group F games with Turkey and the Czech Republic. Morata won’t need many chances to make his mark, and at 10/11 he represents good value to notch.

Georges Mikautadze to have 1+ Shot On Target

Georgia’s Georges Mikautadze has been the breakout star of Euro 2024 so far. Three goals in as many games saw the Georgian striker take the lead in the Golden Boot race ahead of the round of 16. It is no fluke either – Mikautadze boasts an impressive goalscoring record for his country, having netted 13 times in just 28 outings. With four goals across his last four appearances for the Crusaders, Mikautadze will be brimming with confidence.

Being the first man to breach Spain’s backline at Euro 2024 will be a big ask, but registering a shot on target should be well within range. Spain conceded five on-target efforts during their Group B clash with Croatia, which suggests they are far from bulletproof defensively.

Rodri to commit 2+ fouls

Rodri will return from suspension on Sunday night to sit at the base of Spain’s midfield. The Spanish midfield general served a one-game ban against Albania after being booked in each of his opening two Group B appearances.‌

Rodri regularly sees danger and puts out fires, and he also won’t hesitate to take one for the team if necessary. The 28-year-old was averaging more fouls than any other Spain player during Euro 2024 qualifying, and he has already totted up three offences this summer, two of which came against Croatia.

Georgia showed against Portugal they are capable of exploding forward with devastating effect. That could force Rodri into committing some tactical fouls.
