Ecuador v Jamaica

Ecuador -1

Ecuador and Jamaica both lost their opening game of the 2024 Copa America against Venezuela and Mexico respectively and know that a defeat on Wednesday night will spell the end of their involvement in the competition.

Ecuador’s 2-1 defeat to Venezuela was far more unexpected than Jamaica’s opening-day defeat against Mexico, with Enner Valencia’s 22nd-minute red card leaving them with a mountain to climb, both in that opening game and in the remainder of the group.

They are unquestionably a better team than Jamaica, sitting 30th in the FIFA World Rankings compared to Jamaica in 53rd, while their performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has highlighted that they are a promising side.

They should have far too much for Jamaica and set up a do-or-die clash with Mexico in their final group game.

Corner Match Bet: Ecuador

Despite playing almost 70 minutes with ten men, Ecuador peppered the Venezuela goal with shots and took the lead just before half-time before eventually succumbing to numerical inferiority.

Both Ecuador and Jamaica recorded less than 40% in their opening-day defeats, but the former’s is far more understandable given that they had a man disadvantage.

They are likely to enjoy the lion’s share of possession, just as Mexico did against Jamaica last time out.

Mexico just about shaded the corner count in that opening game, winning out seven corners to six, but they also had nine shots on target compared to Jamaica’s four.

It would be highly surprising if Ecuador didn’t win more corners.

Venezuela v Mexico

Over 2.5 Goals

Mexico were incredibly wasteful in their opening game of the tournament, scoring just once from 20 efforts on goal.

The reigning Gold Cup champions were dominant in that 1-0 win but will have to be more clinical if they are to cause an upset later on in the tournament.

They face a Venezuela side that was hardly convincing in dispatching 10-man Ecuador last time out.

Venezuela went behind in that game, facing four shots on target and coughing up several decent goalscoring opportunities, especially when Ecuador had 11 on the pitch.

Mexico, meanwhile, coughed up a few goalscoring opportunities of their own against Jamaica and may have to score twice if they are to make it two wins out of two.

Mexico to Have Six or More Shots on Target

Mexico dominated every statistic in their win over Jamaica and are likely to do so again against Venezuela.

Granted, Venezuela also controlled the lion’s share of the ball against Ecuador, but that figure is inflated by the man advantage.

Mexico recorded 62% possession against Jamaica, recording nine shots on target and 20 overall shots.

Venezuela, meanwhile, faced four shots on target against Ecuador, showcasing some awful defending for Ecuador’s goal.

Provided Mexico keep 11 players on the pitch, they should create enough opportunities to have at least six attempts on target.

Over 8.5 Corners

It is hardly surprising that Mexico won seven corners against Jamaica, considering they had nine shots on target and only managed to score once.

They could easily win a similar number in their second game of the group, especially if Venezuela can hold firm and frustrate them for a large period of the game.

At the other end, Mexico conceded four shots on target against Jamaica, conceding six corners of their own, so it would not be a surprise if Venezuela managed to put the Mexico goal under pressure at points during Wednesday night’s clash, even if Mexico enjoy most of the ball.

At least nine corners could be shared between the two sides.
