Georgia v Portugal betting tips
Short-Price Play: Portugal to Win
Value Punt: Pedro Neto to Score Anytime
Wednesday 8pm: Georgia v Portugal
Euro 2024 Group F match at Arena AufSchalke
TV: ITV and RTE
Georgia versus Portugal sounds like an argument I’d have with my partner around where to spend a long weekend. As of now, I won’t tell you who’s who in this debate – but all I’ll say is I’d not be keen to travel abroad only to see my cousins in an Irish bar.
This group is one of the few where a team are guaranteed to qualify. The only issue is whether or not they’re keen to take their feet off the gas? It’s sometimes to focus on the things we know won’t happen. And in this instance, we know Portugal won’t send out a first XI.
So in knowing, what are the price points we’d be happy to get involved in, knowing that Georgia themselves are blissfully aware that they’ll need to win to believe in qualifying for the knockouts? Well, look no further my friends.
Short-Price Play: Portugal to Win
If this were a qualifier, Portugal would be sixes-on. And we’d not know their team selection anyway. So why, even given the concession of a sub-full-strength team, would we not be backing at the prices?
Playing at a major tournament is the pinnacle of a lot of players’ careers. If they rotate, and they will, this is their moment. Nobody would have considered Eder a worthwhile inclusion in their squad in 2016.
But if a player makes a big enough splash in the final group game, maybe they’re the impact substitute and living off radio interview fees until they’re eighty years old? It’s tempting!

Value Punt: Pedro Neto to Score Anytime
Portugal are funny in that they have so many technically-refined forwards, that they can’t possibly keep them all happy. Given the clubs the others play for, there’s probably a level of acceptance in Neto’s case – and this doesn’t feel like an omission to him.
But he is undeniably better than any striker to have ever been born in Georgia, and seems the most likely to lead the line for them in this game where the secondary contributors will be actively looking to make it about themselves.
It’s also worth noting that he likely plays 90 minutes – which isn’t something you can certain of in the bigger players in must-win games. I low-key enjoy these markets for games like this due to the added value.
