Wednesday, June 26 – 8pm: Czech Republic v Turkey
Euro 2024 Group F match at the Volksparkstadion, Hamburg
TV: ITV4 and RTÉ2
Both Teams to Score
The onus is on the Czech Republic to come out and attack on Wednesday night so there is plenty of scope for a high-scoring showdown at the Volksparkstadion. Both teams getting on the scoresheet has been a running theme in Czech Republic matches in recent times, with both teams netting in each of the Lions’ previous six games, including their two Group F outings at Euro 2024 so far.
While Turkey only need a point to secure second place in the section, they are unlikely to just sit back and settle for a stalemate, especially with a passionate Turkish crowd roaring them on. Five of the Crescent Stars’ last eight matches have also delivered goals at both ends, and a repeat here looks likely given the current lay of the land in Group F.
Over 4.5 Cards
With tempers likely to flare at some point, expect a flurry of cards in this match. Tensions threatened to reach boiling point during the Czechs’ 1-1 draw with Georgia on Saturday, with referee Daniel Sibert dishing out nine yellow cards.
Turkey are no strangers to feisty fixtures either, with the Crescent Stars’ games during Euro 2024 qualifying averaging 6.63 cards per game, not to mention five yellow cards were flashed during their 3-0 defeat to Portugal on Saturday. With so much at stake for both sides on Wednesday night, this Hamburg face-off promises to be just as hard-hitting.

Tomas Soucek to Commit 1+ Foul
Tomas Soucek was one of the Czech Republic’s most prolific foulers during Euro 2024 qualifying, giving away an average of 1.75 free kicks per game. The Lions skipper has since committed a combined total of three fouls across his opening two appearances at Euro 2024, collecting one yellow card in the process. The West Ham workhorse was also a serial offender during the most recent Premier League season, having totted up seven yellow cards whilst averaging 1.20 fouls per 90 minutes. With Soucek expected to be in the thick of the action during this do-or-die game for his country, look to him to commit at least one foul.
Hakan Calhanoglu to Commit 2+ Fouls
Turkey’s Hakan Calhanoglu is likely to be patrolling the same area of the midfield battleground as the aforementioned Tomas Soucek. While the Crescent Stars captain has established a reputation as one of the world’s most gifted midfielders, his combative streak is often overlooked.
Calhanoglu has committed multiple fouls in each of his two Group F outings at Euro 2024 so far, and he already has one yellow card to his name. On top of this, the Inter Milan man was averaging 1.47 fouls per 90 minutes during the most recent Serie A season, giving away two free kicks or more in 11 of his 32 league appearances. In a game of this magnitude, Calhanoglu looks like a strong contender to be reprimanded twice or more by referee Sandro Scharer.
