Saturday, June 20: 14:00 – Georgia v Czech Republic
Euro 2024 Group F match – Hamburg
TV: BBC/ RTE2

The first game on Saturday’s slate is Georgia v Czech Republic. Both teams come into this following defeats to Turkey and Portugal respectively but both sides impressed with their hard work and their quality. This isn’t a game you’d have picked out before the tournament as a cracker, but with both teams on zero points and playing well in the last game, there’s a chance it could well be one.

Both Teams to Score: Yes

Despite both Georgia and the Czech Republic losing their opening games they did both get on the scoresheet and at times showed promise. The Georgians were beaten by the better team in Turkey but they still caused them real issues with 14 shots in the game, five of which were on target.

Meanwhile, the Czechs looked like they’d earned a draw against Portugal before a late goal cost them the point. They only have five shots on the game but given the quality of the opposition in that game, we should see it increase this time around, giving us a great chance of both teams scoring.

Lasha Dvali to Commit 1 or more Fouls

Against the Turkish, we saw Lasha Dvali start on the left of Georgia’s three center backs. That put him in a battle with Arda Guler, a battle you’d have to say he lost. He’s now likely to be matched up against Patrik Schick, which offers a very different kind of competition.

Schick doesn’t have Guler’s dribbling ability but he’s strong and dangerous and still talented with the ball at his feet. We saw Lasha Dvali give up a single foul against Turkey and we’ll take him to do the same again here.

Georges Mikautadze to have 1 or more Shots on Target

Georgia’s sole goal came from Georges Mikautadze against Turkey but the Metz striker was a key focal point of his team. The more renowned Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was tasked with being the creative hub of his team, which led to Mikautadze getting the ball in very advanced positions.

He scored with his only shot on target against Turkey but he did lead the team with total shots, with four. Given how often he looked to shoot and the dangerous positions that he found himself in, we’ll take him to get another shot on target.

Pavel Sulc to be Fouled 1 or more Times

Against Portugal we saw Pavel Sulc put in a battling display. He had a single shot, gave up a foul and won another. Now up against the Georgians, he’s going to need to do something similar to give his team a chance at the three points.

Both teams are fighting for any chance to qualify and given Georgia have Portugal next week, they surely know it’s now-or-never, which should mean plenty of hard or desperate tackles, something which Sulc should be a beneficiary of.

Georgia Goalkeeper to make 3 or more Saves

Giorgi Mamardashvili has had an incredible season for Valencia in La Liga and came into this tournament as one of the world’s most in-demand keepers. Despite conceding three goals he had a very good game.

He saved five attempts from Turkey and with the Czech’s gameplan likely to be less pragmatic now that they’re not playing Portugal, we should see Mamardashvili get ample opportunity to make three or more saves.
