France to Win 3-2

Phil Thompson is back to give us his Netherlands v France predictions for Friday’s Euro 2024 clash in Leipzig.

Kylian Mbappe, broken nose and all, leads Les Bleus into battle in a tough Group D alongside Netherlands, Austria and Poland – and France are the heavy favourites to top the group and head into the knockout stages.

Can France go all the way? Many are tipping up Didier Deschamps’ side to win this summer’s tournament in Germany. 

Thommo delves into whether France can edge the win against, potentially, their toughest test in the group on Friday evening.

This could be a wonderful game.

I’ve backed Portugal as my dark horse, but the Netherlands are another where you think ‘Could they do it?’.

I did back Wout Weghorst to score in the opener against Poland, and lo and behold he came off the bench as a sub for the late winner.

They were missing his presence, and I think he may start this time.

For France, it’s Mbappe time!

I think he’s going to turn up – despite that broken nose. In general, he seems happy, he’s been signing autographs around the training camp. He doesn’t seem moody as he often is.

But I think France will need to be on their toes. I’m expecting goals – lots of them.

I’m backing France to win 3-2.

As for goalscorers, it’s got to be Mbappe, and for the Dutch, he scored in the opener and I think he can again, Cody Gakpo.
