Thursday’s Betting Tips

16:25 Royal Ascot – Kyprios

14:00 Slovenia v Serbia
Serbia to Win
17:00 Denmark v England
England to Win
Harry Kane to Score
20:00 Spain v Italy
Spain to Win

To quote David Brent: “I bloody love football.”

There was a moment earlier in the week where I’d just finished watching Rosallion win the Stakes, went to the kitchen and came back just in time forthe Turkey v Georgia kickoff.

By the time I finished dinner, Portugal were on the box.

Honestly, I don’t know what my days were like without this non-stop entertainment buzz.

I’ll probably have to do some substantial making up to my missus when this is all said and done, so I’d want to be winning a few bob in truth.

Still, can you really put a price on entertainment?

14:00 Slovenia v Serbia

Thursday, June 20: 14:00 – Slovenia v Serbia
Euro 2024 Group C match – Munich
TV: ITV/RTE2

Serbia to Win

As mundane as England may have looked, Serbia showed all the signs of a team ready to qualify from a group.

They were organised, not willing to give anything away cheaply and look ready-made to beat teams worse than them.

That sounds straightforward, but there are sides who will rise to the occasion for bigger games and fall short when less is required.

This doesn’t fit the Serbian mentality and them qualifying for the next round is one of the bets of the tournament thus far.

They’ve also got the most goalscoring threat of any of the nations outside of the big hitters.

16:25 Royal Ascot – Kyprios to Win the Gold Cup

As somewhat of an NH fiend, I’d love to make a case for Vauban. And while a deeply awkward 2023 for the favourite here could be my way into this race, I can’t look past the fact that, much like Stradivarius before him, this race just kinda suits one.

And after becoming the spiritual successor to the aforementioned in 2022, Kyprios looks back to good health now and should take a world of beating here.

Yes, you can make the case of Trawlerman turning him over, but this is his first jaunt over the distance and he doesn’t cry out for the trip.

17:00 Denmark v England

Thursday, June 20: 17:00 – Denmark v England
Euro 2024 Group C match – Frankfurt
TV: BBC/RTE2

England to Win

I know we all joked about how one-dimensional England looked in their opener but with tournament nerves and big, scary Serbian men firmly in the rearview mirror, Denmark are a far easier task, no matter what anyone tries to drum up.

Their opening display against Slovenia was probably the most underwhelming of the bunch relative to expectations, and they’re far from imposing.

And maybe the best of the lot is that Denmark will come out and play because it’s just how Kasper Hjulman operates. They’ll win this by a couple.

Harry Kane to Score

That leads into the fact that England’s record goalscorer should find more opportunities to get on the scoresheet.

Harry Kane likes to go missing in the latter stages, a fact that’s well-documented but there’s no hope that he’ll be allowing Jude Bellingham to carry the burden.

Denmark play a back three, so Kane will have the attention of just a single centre-half.

20:00 Spain v Italy

Thursday, June 20: 20:00 – Spain v Italy
Euro 2024 Group B match – Gelsenkirchen
TV: ITV/RTE2

Spain to Win

The best team in the tournament thus far, Spain move the ball with such measure that Italy’s high-energy midfield pairing will grow frustrated very early on.

Italian coach Luciano Spalletti’s number one goal when taking this job was to transform them from the droll Roberto Mancini unit they once were and to make them entertaining.

Do you know what entertainment gets you against Spain? It gets you one v one with Lamine Yamal.
