Wednesday, June 19: 14:00 – Croatia v Albania
Euro 2024 Group B match – Hamburg
TV: ITV/ RTE2

We have a battle between the two Group B teams who were beaten in the opening games when Croatia take on Albania on Wednesday.

The Croats were second favourites to win the group but fell 3-0 to Spain on Saturday with Albania succumbing to Italy later that day after having taken a shock early lead.

Mateo Kovacic to have 1 or more Shots on Target

Man City’s Mateo Kovacic came into this tournament following a good debut season with his club. He’s been a key member of the Croatia team since he was young and is now one of their experienced veterans.

He was tied for the most shots in the Croatian team in their loss to Spain, with one of his three shots hitting the target. He was moving into more advanced positions then we’re used to seeing from him in the Premier League and he should continue to do so, hopefully getting another shot on target in the process.

Luka Modric to Commit 1 or more Fouls

The 38-year-old Luka Modric has seen it all across his long career. He’s been one of the best midfielders of his generation and is almost certainly the greatest Croatian footballer of all time, sorry Davor Suker. However, he’s not the player that he once was and was taken off during the game far earlier than you’d usually think.

It would be unfair to say that Modric’s legs have gone but he’s not as mobile as he once was and not as quick. That led to him committing two fouls against Spain and even though the Albanian midfield is inferior to that of Spain, he’s still likely to get stuck in and give up a freekick.

Josip Sutalo to be Fouled 1 or more Times

We’re going to take Croatian centre back Josip Sutalo to be fouled one or more times during the game too. The 24-year-old had one of the strangest stats lines in the defeat to Spain, getting fouled four times, more than anybody else on either team.

The Ajax man is up against Armando Broja instead of Alvaro Morata this time around and with the Albanian committing two fouls against Italy, there’s every chance that he and Sutalo will tussle on Wednesday.

Armando Broja to be Fouled 1 or more Times

Speaking of the Chelsea man Armando Broja, we’re also going to include a leg on him getting fouled at least once by the Croatians. He plays down the middle for Albania and is the sole focus of the attack.

He got fouled three times by the Italians and caused them problems with his 6”3 frame and strength. He’s scored just five goals in his 22 Albanian caps but he’s a handful for opposing defenders.

Jasir Asani to have 1 or more Shots on Target

To wrap up our Croatia v Albania Bet Builder we’re going to focus on the right-sided Albanian forward Jasir Asani. He only won his first cap for his country last year but has become important since then, winning 14 caps and scoring four goals, despite playing his club football in South Korea.

He had two shots in the defeat to Italy and although neither were on target it’s clear that he has an eye for goal. We should expect to see him have some success against a Croatian side who’ll leave space at the back.
