Euro 2024 Group A match – Cologne

Hungary to Win, Hungary to have the most Shots on Target & Hungary to have the most Corners
Switzerland and Hungary are two difficult teams to gauge considering they both qualified for the Euros after coming through two of the easiest qualifying groups in the competition’s history.
Hungary, however, did it with far more style than Switzerland, going undefeated in eight games as they topped Group G ahead of Serbia.
Switzerland, on the other hand, limped into second place behind Romania in Group I, dropping 13 points in ten games in a group containing Israel, Belarus, Kosovo and Andorra.
Both sides averaged similar shots on target per game in qualifying, with Hungary averaging just below six efforts on goal per game compared to the Swiss average of exactly six per game. Their record, however, comes with the caveat that they played two games against sixth-seeds Andorra, while Hungary competed in a group of five teams.
They showed more promise in the European qualifiers and in the most recent iteration of the Nations League, which saw them finish second in a group containing England, Italy and Germany. They should just about shade this one and are good value to also shade the shots on target and corner stats.
Both Teams to Score & 3 + Corners for Each Team, 2 + Cards for Each Team
Neither Hungary nor Switzerland demonstrated a real ability to defend in their European qualifiers, with Hungary conceding in each of their last five games and Switzerland in seven out of 10, including a goal against group whipping boys Andorra.
Hungary even conceded two goals against Ireland in a Euros warm-up, a considerably bad achievement considering their dismal record in front of goal.
Both sides have demonstrated a potency in hitting the back of the net, however, with Switzerland averaging 2.2 goals per game in qualifying and Hungary averaging exactly two goals per game. It’s hard to see either side keeping a clean sheet.
Both sides are also likely to win a significant number of corners and receive a fair number of cards during Saturday’s opener as well.
The Swiss averaged exactly two cards per game in their qualifying campaign, while they won more than six corners per game on average. The Hungarians, on the other hand, averaged just over two cards per game in qualifying and just over five corners per game.
Considering what is at stake, this could be relatively fiery, while both could easily win a fair number of corners.
Hungary to Commit the most Fouls in Each Half
Discipline could have let Hungary down in qualifying, with the Magyars going down to 10 men in two crucial qualifiers. They certainly out-fouled Switzerland in qualifying, committing 99 in eight qualifiers. Murat Yakin’s Swiss side, on the other hand, committed just 91 in 10 qualifiers, averaging roughly three fouls per game fewer than their opponents here.
Even in their two warm-up games against Ireland and Israel, Hungary committed a huge number of fouls – something that is uncommon for games that are friendly by nature.
Hungary committed 13 against Ireland and 17 against Israel for a grand total of 30 fouls in two friendly internationals. There is every chance that they will out-foul Switzerland in both halves on Saturday and they are good value to do so.
