Phil Thompson is back to give us his Poland v Netherlands predictions for Sunday’s Euro 2024 showdown in Hamburg.

Virgil van Dijk and Co. are fancied by many to go deep in the tournament but the same can’t be said for Poland, who will be without Barcelona hitman Robert Lewandowski.

Thommo delves into whether the Netherlands will have too much for their rivals this weekend or whether their opponents can cause an upset in their group opener.

I think this will be a tight one. You look at Poland and you think that Robert Lewandowski is going to be busy but he got injured in their final friendly game against Turkey after 30 minutes.

Coming off so early in a game was a big concern. He’ll now miss their opening match.

Poland certainly aren’t a bad team, they beat Ukraine 3-1 and Turkey 2-1 in their friendlies. Remember too that they beat Wales on penalties to make it to the Euros.

They’re not in great form to be facing the Netherlands who had two 4-0 wins in their friendlies.

They beat that incredible football side who are really difficult to beat (erm…) and are on a great run, Iceland, who of course beat England lately and they beat Canada too.

The Dutch will be feeling like dark horses coming into the tournament.

I expect it’ll be tight, I’m going for the Netherlands to Win 2-1.
