Germany v Scotland Tips
Germany to Win 2-1
Kai Havertz to Score
Phil Thompson has peeled himself of the sunlounger and is getting back down to business for Euro 2024. Admittedly, it was getting a bit chilly trying to top up his tan given that yellow circle in the sky hasn’t been seen all summer, but still… cheers, Phil.
Anyway, here Thommo takes a look at the opening match of the tournament on Friday night as hosts Germany tackle Scotland at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena.
This one feels like a bit of a ‘free hit’ for the Tartan Army with few expecting much from them, with the clashes against other Group A sides Switzerland and Hungary likely to prove more decisive. Take it away, Thommo…
Friday, June 14: 8pm – Germany v Scotland
Euro 2024 Group A match – Munich
TV: ITV1/ STV/ RTE2
This game is a great start for Euro 2024. It’s a tough one to begin with for Scotland, but it’s a huge game for Germany too, and they will be under pressure from the off.
The public will be expectant of a result and that could make Germany a little nervous in this game.
Scotland aren’t coming into this in good health, they’ve only got one win over their last nine matches and that was beating Gibraltar 0-2, but they will defend well.
Steve Clarke knows how to set his team up to hit Germany on the counter-attack and he will be looking to use set plays where he can try to hurt the opposition.
Despite those nerves for Germany, I do still expect them to get a win on opening night, and they are always a threat at major tournaments despite being disappointing in the last few.
They have always got a chance in everything that they do. They’re unbeaten over their last four, winning three of them and one was against France.
Germany will be under pressure but I expect them to start the tournament with a victory.
I’m going for Germany to win this one 2-1 in Munich and get off to a winning start at Euro 2024.
Looking at the options to score for Germany, I’m going for Kai Havertz to find the back of the net.
The confidence he’s gained from the season at Arsenal, particularly in the run-in, was impressive.
He was scoring goals galore, with four in their last five in the Premier League, and it looks like he will be the one leading the line for Germany.
Along with the above two picks, if you are looking for options to add to make a Bet Builder I’d add Both Teams to Score: Yes because of those set pieces for Scotland. They’ll be massive and they’re so good at them.
I’d also back Jamal Musiala to have 1 or more Shots on Target and for Scotland’s Lawrence Shankland, who had a fantastic end to the season, to also have 1 or more Shots on Target.
- Thommo’s picks for Germany To Win, Both Teams To Score, Kai Havertz To Score, Jamal Musiala To Have 1 Or More Shots On Target & Lawrence Shankland To Have 1 Or More Shots On Target comes to around 14/1 in a Paddy Power Bet Builder.
