Romania v Bulgaria – Romania to Win
International friendly match at the Stadionul Steaua, Bucharest
TV: Premier Sports, Tuesday, 7:30pm
A meaty Eastern European derby gets us started for Tuesday night’s international friendlies as Romania welcome their southern neighbours Bulgaria where bragging rights are certainly on the line. The hosts will have Euro 2024 matters on their mind, the away side will just like to get one over their oldest of rivals.
Romania are in good overall form, they’ve won three, drawn one, and lost one over their last five, while games played at home have seen them going undefeated over their last six, winning four and drawing two, scoring 11 and conceding just three.
Bulgaria, however, aren’t in the best of shape and have won just one of their last 10 fixtures. Away from home, they’ve won one, drawn two, and lost two, scoring five and conceding seven. Romania’s tough defence at home is putting us off backing both teams scoring here and their superior goal-scoring stats means a better pick is to back them to win.
Austria v Serbia – Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals
International friendly match at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Vienna, Tuesday, 7:45pm
Austria are enjoying a fine run of form. Ralf Rangnick’s side have won all five of their most recently played fixtures and on home turf have won three, drawn one, and lost one, scoring 13 and conceding five.
Serbia have won two, drawn one, and lost two over their last five, while on their away jaunts have won two and lost three, scoring five and conceding eight. Both teams should be conceding with those stats in mind but both certainly have the firepower up front for us to see a third goal being scored. Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals has plenty of value here.
Ireland v Hungary – Both Teams to Score
International friendly match at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin
TV: Premier Sports, RTE 2, Tuesday, 7:45pm
Being an Ireland fan is awful frustrating lately. You see shimmers of hope occasionally in terms of how the team plays but then you have to ask yourself the question, has the bar been sank so low that a string of six successful passes is something to be happy about? There are good players in there, they just need the right man to get them playing as a team.
The Boys in Green have won just two of their last 10 fixtures, both were against Gibraltar so they don’t really count, and at home have drawn two and lost three over their last five, scoring just one goal while conceding six.
Hungary must be taking this game with the idea that Ireland play like Scotland, who they’ll face on June 23rd. The away side haven’t lost any of their last 14 games but on their travels have won just one and drawn four, scoring eight and conceding seven. If Luxembourg, Lithuania, and Bulgaria can land a punch against Hungary, Ireland surely can too, we’re backing Both Teams to Score.
Portugal v Finland – Portugal to Win to Nil
International friendly match at the Estádio José Alvalade, Lisbon
TV: Premier Sports, Tuesday, 7:45pm
Roberto Martinez’s Portugal welcome Finland to Lisbon as very short-odds favourites. The hosts are in amazing form, winning 11 of their last 12 fixtures and on home soil have all six home games since the World Cup, scoring a whopping 26 goals while conceding just four, keeping four clean sheets.
Finland have won three and lost two over their last five, sharing the same results over their last five away games. However, those games saw wins over Northern Ireland, Kazakhstan and San Marino, so they’re not exactly world beaters and with Portugal’s impressive record of clean sheets going with the Win to Nil pick has some decent value.
Italy v Turkey – Italy to Win
International friendly match at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, Bologna
TV: Premier Sports, Tuesday, 8pm
Italy have won three, drawn one, and lost one over their last five games while on home soil have won four and lost one, scoring 13 and conceding five. Turkey have won two, drawn one, and lost two and over their recent away games, share the same results, scoring six and conceding 10.
The Azzurri rarely do badly in friendlies we have to mention. Indeed, they’ve won nine of their last 10 and five of their last five played in Italy, six if we include a ‘home’ game played against Venezuela in the US last March. Turkey, on the other hand, don’t have a good record in friendlies when playing away from home and have won just one of their last five, drawing one and losing three. So, armed with that information, backing the hosts to win makes the best sense.
