From the Champions League final to a meaningless friendly between Scotland and Gibraltar, the thrills just keep on coming.

Just why Scotland have chosen to take on one of the worst teams in world football so soon before the Euros is a mystery, but one may hazard a guess that this game is very much a morale-booster for the Scots.

Despite looking very impressive in qualifying, Scotland have now gone seven games without a win stretching back to September last year.

The international window in March saw Scotland lose 4-0 to the Netherlands before losing 1-0 at home to a Northern Irish side that languished in fifth in the Euro 2024 qualifying group.

They will undoubtedly put that winless record to bed against Gibraltar on Monday night. Gibraltar finished bottom of Group B in Euro 2024 qualifying with a staggering record of eight games played, eight losses, zero goals scored, and 41 conceded.

They have since lost home and away to Lithuania in a Nations League relegation play-off, also without scoring a goal.

This is an opportunity for Scotland to boost their confidence ahead of their Euro 2024 opener against hosts Germany on Friday week and they should grasp it with both hands. He’s our Bet Builder!

Scott McTominay to Score

Scott McTominay was integral during Scotland’s qualifying campaign last year, scoring a hugely impressive seven goals as Scotland finished second behind Spain in Group A.

McTominay’s goals almost amounted to half of Scotland’s overall tally of 17 in qualifying and he is arguably the most potent goalscorer at Steve Clarke’s disposal.

McTominay is also coming off the back of by far his most prolific season at Manchester United to date.

The 27-year-old scored 10 goals in all competitions for Erik Ten Hag’s side this season, often scoring match-winning goals.

He is decent value to find the back of the net on Monday, considering the ability of opposition in question.

John McGinn to Score

Before Scott McTominay, there was John McGinn.

The Aston midfielder scored seven goals during Scotland’s Euro 2020 qualifying campaign and boasts a record of 18 goals in 64 international appearances, relatively impressive for a midfielder.

Like McTominay, McGinn comes into this game off the back of his best-ever scoring season at club level, scoring nine goals in all competitions as Aston Villa secured a Champions League spot and made the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.

He should be brimming with confidence on Monday and is good value to get on the scoresheet.

Over 10.5 Scotland Corners

Scotland will enjoy the upper hand from the get-go on Monday evening, of that there is no doubt.

Not only did Gibraltar concede 41 goals in eight qualifiers last year, but they also faced a whopping 255 shots at a rate of over 30 per game.

That naturally translated into a high volume of corners as well, with Gibraltar facing 99 corners in their eight qualifiers – an average of over 12 per game.

Scotland could very easily clear the 10-corner mark on Monday.

Under 0.5 Scotland Cards

Given that Gibraltar’s opponents dominated every facet of the game during qualifying, it is hardly surprising that they rarely gave away cards against the European minnows.

Ireland, Greece, France, and the Netherlands racked up just four cards in eight games against Gibraltar in Euro 2024 qualifying.

Two of those cards came in Ireland’s 4-0 win in Faro last October, meaning there five games when Gibraltar’s opponents didn’t pick up any cards at all.

There is simply no need for a superior footballing team to pick up cards against Gibraltar.

Scotland will dominate the ball and the chances on Monday evening, while they will rarely find themselves in a position where they could be hurt on the counterattack.

Gibraltar are also unlikely to get on the wrong side of the referee on too many occasions on Monday considering they picked up just nine cards in eight games during qualifying.

There is also the matter that this game is a friendly when referees tend to be a bit more lenient and when players are not bothered enough to make the sort of tackles that could result in a booking.
