Olympiakos v Fiorentina – Europa Conference League Final at the OPAP Arena, Athens

This Wednesday we have the second of this season’s three European finals with Olympiakos taking on Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League. The Greeks beat tournament favourites Aston Villa in the semi-final, with Fiorentina overcoming Club Brugge.
With the game taking place at the OPAP Arena, home of AEK Athens, will it give their local rivals Olympiakos an advantage or will it play into the hands of the Italian side? Let’s have a look…
Olympiakos to Lift the Cup
This is all set up to be a close game but it’s one in which the Italian side are favourites. However, we’ll be backing Olympiakos to be the team lifting the trophy at the end of the night, for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, home advantage. Yes, this isn’t their stadium but playing in their home city would have made this week and the preparation for this game far easier, and they’re going to be familiar playing inside this stadium.
Secondly, Fiorentina’s lack of firepower. They’ve scored just 58 Serie A goals in 37 games this season. They’re not immensely dangerous going forward and Olympiakos should be able to outscore them, whether that’s in regular or added time.
Ayoub El Kaabi to Score
One of the reasons for believing in Olympiakos’ ability to outscore Fiorentina is Ayoub El Kaabi. He’s been a very effective scorer in the Greek Super League with 17 goals in 30 games, his average of 0.81 goals per 90 minutes played is superior to the one man who outscored him in the league this year, Loren Moron.
The 30-year old Moroccan has also been devastating in Europe. He scored three goals in six Europa League games, followed by 10 in just eight games in the Conference League, including five across the two against Villa.
Daniel Podence to have 1 or more Shots on Target
We’re also going to back El Kaabi’s teammate Daniel Podence to have a shot on target in the game. He’s played 30 times domestically this season and had 27 shots on target, with an average of 1.27 for every 90 minutes on the field.
The Wolves loan man is important to how the team plays and although he’d love to add to the one goal he has in this competition this season, he may have to do with just a shot on target.
Nicolas Gonzalez to have 1 or more Shots on Target
We’re going for another shot on target but this time it’s for a Fiorentina player, Nicolas Gonzalez. It’s incredibly hard to know exactly who’ll start in any given Fiorentina game given Vincenzo Italiano’s habit of tinkering with his lineup but Gonzalez is a key part of the team.
He’s started just 20 of his 28 Serie A appearances this season for the Viola but he’s still the team’s top goal scorer with 11 goals. In those games he’s had 33 shots on target, averaging 1.63 per 90 minutes played. That’s marginally above his 1.5 per 90 minutes played in the Europa Conference League, but we would still be confident of him getting one on target here.
Cristiano Biraghi to Commit 1 or more Fouls
Finally, we’re wrapping up the Bet Builder by backing Cristiano Biraghi to commit a foul. The 31-year-old is likely to be deployed on the left of Fiorentina’s defence, where he’s in for a busy game.
In 28 Serie A appearances, he’s been booked eight times and averaged 1.5 fouls committed per game. In the 12 games he’s played in this competition he’s committed 13 fouls and has a very good chance of continuing his foul per-game average here.
