Man City v Man United
FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, London

A Goal Scored in the First 10 Minutes

Ilkay Gundogan famously scored within 11 seconds in last season’s FA Cup final and that early goal was by no means an outlier in recent Manchester derbies.

Six of the last eight Manchester derbies have seen a goal scored in the opening ten minutes, with only City’s win at Old Trafford last October and United’s home victory in January 2023 taking longer than ten minutes for the deadlock to be broken.

Man City have scored inside the opening ten minutes in four of their last seven games against United and have scored inside the first ten minutes on six occasions this season.

Man United, on the other hand, have also scored six goals inside the opening ten minutes of league games this season, while they have scored twice inside the first ten minutes in their run to the FA Cup final. Erik Ten Hag’s side have also conceded four times inside the opening ten minutes of league games.

It may not be as quick as 11 seconds, but there is a decent chance that there will be another early goal during Saturday’s final.

BTTS, 3+ Corners Each & 2+ Cards Each

Manchester City have unquestionably enjoyed the upper hand in recent Manchester derbies, winning six of the last seven clashes against United, including each of their last three. However, United have proved relatively adept at finding the back of the net in those games.

Despite winning just once, United have scored eight goals in those seven games, failing to score just twice (both times at Old Trafford). The Red Devils have also averaged just under three corners per game in those seven games and won three in last year’s final against City.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag

Ten Hag’s side averaged almost six corners per game in the league last season and there is a decent chance that they will win at least three on Saturday, especially if they are within one goal of City as the game enters the final stages like last season.

They’ve also dominated the card count since Ten Hag took over, collecting 13 yellow cards in five games compared to City’s three. However, two of those three bookings came in last season’s FA Cup final and it is reasonable to assume that tensions will rise a notch once more when the two rivals meet on Saturday.

Man City Win, most Shots on Target & most Corners

This really boils down to one question, are Manchester City going to win? Because the other two selections are almost guaranteed to come to pass.

United have faced so many shots this season that it is almost certain that City will record at least 20 efforts on Saturday (they recorded a combined 48 shots in the two league games between the sides this season).

City registered ten shots on target to United’s three at Old Trafford back in October, while they hit the target eight times at the Etihad back in March. United could only manage one. They also won the corner battle in both games, winning 12 corners to United’s seven at Old Trafford and 15 corners to United’s two at the Etihad. They will enjoy the lion’s share of possession and will unquestionably lay siege to the United goal.

It is just a case of whether United can pull off a shock win, but going on recent Manchester derby form, that appears highly unlikely. City look set to win back-to-back league and cup doubles, making this a very tempting special.
