Dundalk v Shamrock Rovers

League of Ireland match at Oriel Park, Dundalk
TV: LOITV, Friday, 7:45pm

Draw

Dundalk’s season continues to splutter along with Noel King now having departed and the team rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division ahead of hosting Shamrock Rovers on Friday night at Oriel Park.

Things cannot get much worse for Dundalk but I’m backing them to grit out a draw in this game based on their still being a tough nut to crack at home. They are unbeaten in their last five home games and Rovers have only won away at Derry City in their last four matches on their travels from Tallaght.

Shelbourne v Waterford

League of Ireland match at Tolka Park, Dublin
TV: LOITV, Friday, 7:45pm

Under 2.5 goals

Damien Duff’s pace setters will be looking to increase their lead at the top over rivals Derry City and Shamrock Rovers this weekend. Duff’s team are sticking to their principles of defensive solidity with three clean sheets and just two goals conceded in their last five league games.

All five of those matches featured under 2.5 goals scored in total, with five of Waterford’s last seven also coming in below that mark, and Duff will not change his approach for anyone.

St. Patrick’s Athletic v Derry City

League of Ireland match at Richmond Park, Dublin
TV: LOITV, Friday, 7:45pm

Both teams to score – Yes

If the other two games are not filled with excitement, Derry’s trip to Richmond Park could add a few more goals to Friday’s schedule, with Ruaidhrí Higgins’ visitors looking to keep up the pressure on Shelbourne.

St Pat’s remain inconsistent this season, but they are unbeaten in their last four games at home, scoring in each match, and they should get a boost from the buzz around the appointment of former Ireland boss Stephen Kenny for his first game in charge.

Derry drew a blank at Galway in their last away tie but the Candystripes were on target in four of their previous five away games.
