Saturday, 4:15pm: Bolton v Oxford
EFL League One playoff final match at Wembley
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football

Bolton to Win

Bolton ended the regular EFL League One season in third spot after missing out on automatic promotion behind champions Portsmouth and second place Derby County. However, that frustration has not derailed them in the playoffs, as they just about edged out a 5-4 semi final aggregate win over Barnsley, as Oxford somehow beat Peterborough 2-1 across two legs.

Defeat in the second leg to Barnsley was Bolton’s first in 10 league games and their firepower gives them an advantage to push on and secure a return to the EFL Championship next season.

Both teams to score

The semi finals were a rollercoaster for Bolton fans, as they scored late on to win at Barnsley, before needing to survive a storm in the second leg. Ian Evatt’s side were unable to keep a clean sheet in either game as they simply outscored Barnsley to reach the final.

Ahead of this final showdown, Bolton have only kept one clean sheet, and Oxford have found the back of the net in nine of their last ten league matches.

Dion Charles to Score Anytime

Neither side have a striker who broke the 20-goal barrier in league action this season, but in Northern Ireland international Dion Charles, Bolton have a forward in form. 14 league goals in the third tier this season is a solid return, and he has three goals in his last three starts, including two penalties.

10 or more corners

With an open game expected, the chances of the corner counter racking up looks strong, with the semi finals producing over 10 on multiple occasions. Bolton’s two games against Barnsley saw 11 and 13 respectively with Oxford’s second leg against Peterborough yielding a whopping 19. Bolton’s average for the season is 10.8 per game with Oxford on 10.5 and that could get nudged up in the final.
