Premier League Golden Boot odds: Who will finish top scorer this season?

Penalty king Palmer is ready to fight Erling Haaland in Premier League top scorer race!

The final weeks of the 2023/24 Premier League season will have fans on the edge of their seats until the last ball is kicked on May 19.

The title race, the battle for Europe and a gritty relegation scrap are all still to be decided as Manchester City aim for glory once again.

Alongside the fight for team honours, greedy goal scorers will also be eyeing their scoring tallies ahead of the run in, with former City star Cole Palmer ready to fight Erling Haaland all the way in the Golden Boot shootout.

Palmer’s summer move to Chelsea came on the back of showdown talks with Pep Guardiola as he opted to twist and grasp the challenge of starting afresh at Stamford Bridge.

Whilst Mauricio Pochettino’s own first year with the Blues has yielded more disappointment, Palmer’s stock has skyrocketed, as part of his one-man campaign to keep their season alive.

Erling Haaland

Before a ball was kicked this season, Haaland looked set to dominate the Golden Boot race again, following his defence demolition in 2022/23. The Norwegian showed zero respect for easing himself into life in English football as he set a new Premier League Golden Boot benchmark with 36 goals.

Not even the wildest Haaland fan boy expected him to match those numbers, but in a Harry Kane-less Premier League, he looked certain to hit 30 and retain his crown.

However, ahead of the final weekend of the season, Haaland has dropped down with the mortals with 27 Premier League goals after 37 games. He is strongly fancied to defend his goal crown but without breaking the 30-goal mark.

Cole Palmer

Palmer continues to carry Chelsea in 2024 with the 21-year-old proving to be the sharpest bit of Blues business in Todd Boehly era. He is just behind Haaland on 21 goals, with 36 played, including nine penalties.

‘Cold’ Palmer’s coolness from the spot might have ruffled his teammates feathers, but it keeps him level with his former City teammate, and nine assists would also give him a tiebreaker edge.

Palmer is under no pressure, with Chelsea not in the top four race, but the Blues have a difficult run in, which could disrupt his goal flow at the key time.

Mohamed Salah

Despite Haaland’s goal crazy 2022/23, and Palmer being the player in form, the experienced candidate in the race is still Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian already has three Golden Boot awards, either outright or as joint top scorer, and he has 18 Premier League goals after 37 Liverpool games. He is in a tight spot to break the 20+ barrier for fifth season from seven at Anfield with just one game left.

Ollie Watkins

Ollie Watkins joins Palmer in the Golden Boot race and the battle to impress Gareth Southgate enough for a spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad.

Despite the superb joint form, the pair are still maybes on Southgate’s list, alongside Ivan Toney, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon ahead of flying out to Germany this summer.

Watkins is doing his case no harm with his best ever Premier League season with 19 league goals with Villa already playing 37 games.

Alexander Isak

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak is making a late charge to upset the Golden Boot race with the Swedish international scoring for fun in recent weeks. Another player with no major pressure on his shoulders, and Eddie Howe will keep him as the Magpies line leader, as they try to sneak a European spot.
