Alexander Isak To Have 2 Or More Shots On Target

Newcastle are going to get chances at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. Manchester United were arguably their most compact in a long time in their 1-0 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday and yet they still faced five shots on target.

Erik Ten Hag’s side have faced a whopping 53 shots on target in eight league games since the international break at a rate approaching seven per game. They have faced a minimum of four shots on target in each of those games (and that came against a wretched Sheffield United outfit) and will almost certainly concede a high volume of shots on target when Newcastle come to town.

Alexander Isak is decent value to be responsible for at least two of those efforts. The Swedish striker has scored a hugely impressive 20 goals in 25 league starts this season, while he has also scored nine goals in his last nine appearances.

Isak averages 2.5 shots per game in the league and that includes games against competent defences, which certainly does not describe United’s current back four. There is every chance that Isak tests Andre Onana at least twice.

Casemiro to commit two or more fouls

The transition to centre back has not been kind to Casemiro, who already looked like his legs had gone in his natural midfield role in any case. The Brazilian has been at fault for several goals in United’s last three games and will struggle against a Newcastle side that has scored 14 goals in their last five games.

Surprisingly for a man prone to going to ground, Casemiro only averages 1.1 fouls per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season, but he may just exceed that average on Wednesday night. Newcastle possess plenty of pace in attack and will cause plenty of problems for the increasingly immobile Brazilian. He is decent value to be called up for at least two infringements.

Over 5.5 Manchester United Corners

For a side that has struggled all season to create chances and find the back of the net, United’s corner count is surprisingly good. Ten Hag’s side have won a total of 210 corners in 36 league outings this season at a rate of almost six per game.

In their last six league outings at Old Trafford, United have won 39 corners, averaging more than six per game. This is United’s last appearance at Old Trafford after an utterly wretched campaign and they will surely be desperate to give the United faithful something to cheer about, especially considering they have won just once in their last eight games. They should put Newcastle under pressure and should win at least six corners as a result.

Under 4.5 Cards

It may be a sign that the fight has gone out of this United team, but they have been incredibly well disciplined in recent games. Ten Hag’s side have received just a single yellow card in their last five league games, which probably signifies that the players simply do not care anymore.

United’s overall disciplinary record is the sixth-best in the league, with Ten Hag’s side averaging just over two cards per game. They sit just below Newcastle in the disciplinary table, who average just under two cards per game.

Eddie Howe’s side have not been as well-behaved as United in their last five games, picking up eight cards, but there is still a very good chance that the overall card count will be low on Wednesday. Both sides rank among the best in the league in terms of fouls per game and there just isn’t enough fight left in United for this game to be played with any needle.

Man United Keeper To Make Four Or More Saves

It is only right that United bring the curtain down on a disastrous season by making Andre Onana do plenty of work at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Although he has made a few high-profile errors, Onana has unquestionably been overworked in practically every game that United have played in all competitions.

Onana has made 142 saves in the league this season at a rate of almost exactly four per game and is just one save shy of league leader Thomas Kaminski, who has played a game more. It is a sorry state of affairs for Manchester United that their goalkeeper is the odds-on favourite to make the most saves in the league this season, highlighting just how porous they have been at the back.

It would be a great surprise if Onana didn’t make at least four stops in his final Old Trafford appearance of the season.
